Games and Learning you say?? Damn straight, this isn't the 90s ;-)
Come listen and talk to senior educational researcher Rachel Bolstad talk about her recently concluded "Games for Learning" research project.
Rachel and her colleagues at the New Zealand Council for Educational Research investigated the actual and potential role of games (including digital and non-digital, gameplay, game design, and gamification) to support learning opportunities for kids in New Zealand schools.
Rachel's work on Games Based Learning began in 2017.
Her journey into the world of games has included; Visiting local schools and researching games based learning practices in Aotearoa, travelling to the esteemed Games for Change festival in New York, it has seen her design multiple games, she has convened numerous game design workshops, helped organise a national conference and has even co-designed a deck of cards to help other people design their own games!
Her trusty sometimes sidekick Dan Milward will be around to talk about kids developing their own digital video games, and talk about how the games industry is putting the Ed in Tech.
Attendees will walk away with an overview of Rachel's key research insights into the gameful learning space, and a better understanding of why games matter in a learning context.
