EU invades Scotland!
Hello Edinburgh Craft Beer Lovers! We have two exciting events coming up under the ‘Beer Without Borders’ umbrella. First is a week of great events with over 12 guests from our brewing friends in mainland Europe, beginning with a huge tap takeover at Brewdog in Cowgate on Thursday 24 January, and the second is a Scottish invasion of the fantastic Artbeerfest in Caminha, Portugal (https://vimeo.com/301311130?ref=em-share). More on this in a separate message. For January, I have invited 14 breweries from Europe to come to Edinburgh for a week of TTOs, brewery visits, collabs. and a brewers’ dinner. Activities for our Meetup group will begin with a massive Tap Takeover at Brewdog in Cowgate on Thursday 24th. The breweries coming are Letra (Portugal), Tanker (Estonia), La Quince (Spain), Post Scriptum (Portugal), Totenhopfen (Luxembourg), Lervig (Norway), Santocristo (Spain), Seven Island (Greece), Colossus (Portugal), Reketye (Hungary), DouGalls (Spain) and MøM (Portugal). Brewski (Sweden) and Pyynikin (Finland) also want to come but I have not chosen the best date for them, so they are working on it! From[masked] there will be a private ‘industry’ session to give Scottish brewers, media, importers & agents an opportunity to meet the guest brewers, after which we will open the doors to everybody at 19.00. Scottish/EU themed pizzas will be available and I hope to have a small Scottish band playing, to show our visitors the best of Scotland! If anybody knows any local musicians who would like to come along to support this event, please let me know. On Friday 25th (Burns’ Day) we plan to have several parallel tap takeovers, including Hanging Bat, yet to be finalised. On Saturday 26th we will be down in the Borders for a Portuguese/Tempest collab. session in the morning, followed by an afternoon open taproom event at Tempest Brewery in Tweedbank (easy access by train). Details are yet to be finalised but there will be guest beers from our EU partners and street food. Our 12 visiting brewers will be mingling with you all, and getting to know Tempest’s great range of beers. In the evening there will be a tickets only Brewers’ dinner. On Sunday 27th we will be heading to 71 Brewery where another Portugal/Scotland collab. will begin, followed by an open taproom event, again with guest brewers The third preplanned collab with Portugal will be with Fyne Ales, but due to logistics, no open sessions with this one. There are several other EU brewers keen to set up collabs with their Scottish brothers and there is sure to be a great vibe at the events as they all get to know each other. There will be other spontaneous get togethers while the guest brewers will be with us from 22-27 January, and details will be posted on Beer Without Borders Facebook & Twitter feeds. Beer Without Borders is a non profit making project with the ambition of bringing together talented & enthusiastic brewers from Scotland and the rest of the EU. Donations and sponsorship are welcomed to help with the cost of promotional flags, banners, T shirts etc…. to keep the project alive & kicking.

    What we're about

Let's celebrate The Craft Beer Revolution! This group is for anyone who loves craft beer and socialising. All the meet-ups are aimed at fostering a love and appreciation of the new styles of beer that are coming out of awesome microbreweries around the world. One week might be a course on how to brew your own beer, the next might be a visit to a craft beer festival or an exclusive beer tasting in one of Edinburgh's up-and-coming breweries. We'll aim to have something arranged at least twice a month.
