In Conversation with Paul Collier: Politics After Individualism

Details
Greed is obviously very far from dead – we are living in greedy individualistic society that is not able to cope with the mounting anxieties of non-elite citizens.
This is a problem that has been building since the 1980s, generated by bad but influential economic and legal ideas.
When we say that greed is dead, we mean that those ideas have become intellectually untenable, exploded by the damaging effects of their consequences, their logical mis-steps, and recent scientific evidence on human evolution.
We are at an inflection point – ideas are on the turn from individualism to communitarianism. They will take a time to work through into public and corporate policies, but the good news is that we are now at ‘peak greed’!
Join Edinburgh Futurists as we discuss the findings from Paul Collier's new book. We will look at how to approach this inflection point and what changes this will bring.
