What we're about

This is a group for internationally minded people, whether they are local to Edinburgh or have come to Edinburgh to work or study. We are a very friendly and always welcome new faces and new ideas about trips and activities.

The Meet up is sponsored by Scotland Study Centre (SSC), a language school with a focus on higher level English and also other languages, such as Japanese, Chinese, French and German. This Meetup is different to most, as it does not meet up in noisy pubs but in a space dedicated to discussion and watching film.

SSC is located at 29 Nicolsn Square, EH8 9BX. The sessions usually take the form of watching a short piece of video and discussing the issues raised. It is an opportunity to practise your English language discussion skills in a structured learning environment, and professional feedback is given on how to improve. Most members say that in everyday life people don't correct their mistakes and find it useful to have their main mistakes picked up in the Meet up sessions.

The English language sessions are also an opportunity for you to develop your presentation skills in English, as you can lead a session and be given professional training for, and feedback on, your presentation.

N.B. These discussion and presentation training sessions cost £3 per session. This fee helps cover the Meet-up fee and includes tea/coffee.

There are also regular trips in the SSC minibus to places of historic and cultural interest. Recent trips have been to Traquair House, Stirling Castle and the site of Bannockburn, and Loch Lomond/Doune Castle. Please suggest places that you would like to visit!

N.B. These trips usually cost £10/£15 for transport + any entrance fees to sites.

It is important to RSVP when you are coming to the event, and you should change your RSVP if your plans change and you cannot make it. This is because preparation of materials is sometimes needed, or you place can be taken by another member.

If you would like to make new friends, improve your English or another language, learn about the history and culture of Scotland, explore more of Edinburgh - and further afield in the SSC minibus , then join us and get involved!

This is a wholly democratic group - and it will only work with your ideas, feedback, and participation!
