1st Friday singing in Glasgow
All welcome! Come sing shapenote with us. If you're not familiar with this style of music, then we will give a small introduction. If you like our company, and the unique sound of this music, then I hope you will stick around and get familiar with it. Like any skill, it takes time to develop. We're here to help you. This is community singing from the USA. A Capella, unrestrained, moving harmonies and lyrics. We leave our prejudices at the door and gather to sing like this across the globe. Donations are welcome to cover costs like room hire, loaner books, etc. If you need a guide, then £5 is great, but it’s totally voluntary. Hope to see you there!

What we're about

We meet every third Friday of the month (Except August) in Edinburgh, and every first Friday of the month in Glasgow.

We sing for fun, using a book called "The Sacred Harp". It uses shape notes to facilitate sight reading. Everyone welcome, no auditions! We sing loud, from the heart, no holding back.

This type of music featured in the 2003 film "Cold Mountain". It is a Capella, four or six part harmony. Like any music, it takes time to learn, but the shape notes and welcoming atmosphere are there to help you along an unexpected journey.

This music can be sung around the globe, and will get you around to sing if that's what you want. It's old, folk, not quite gospel. Come check it out! Come and go as you please during any session.

For more info, check out our website: http://shapenotescotland.weebly.com/

It is essentially free. Donations for room hire welcome.
