What we're about

We meet every third Friday of the month (Except August) in Edinburgh, and every first Friday of the month in Glasgow.

We sing for fun, using a book called "The Sacred Harp". It uses shape notes to facilitate sight reading. Everyone welcome, no auditions! We sing loud, from the heart, no holding back.

This type of music featured in the 2003 film "Cold Mountain". It is a Capella, four or six part harmony. Like any music, it takes time to learn, but the shape notes and welcoming atmosphere are there to help you along an unexpected journey.

This music can be sung around the globe, and will get you around to sing if that's what you want. It's old, folk, not quite gospel. Come check it out! Come and go as you please during any session.

For more info, check out our website: http://shapenotescotland.weebly.com/

It is essentially free. Donations for room hire welcome.

3rd Friday singing in Edinburgh!

Quaker Meeting House

Come sing! No experience required, but like any skill this will take time to learn. We will give a small introduction if you're new to this. If you like the sound and our company, then hopefully you will stick around. If you have any questions, then don't hesitate to ask. We sing from a book called "The Sacred Harp". Moving songs and lyrics from the USA. No instruments, just voices. This is community singing which almost died out, but has revived recently and now there are singings like this across the world. If you think you can sing or not, doesn't matter. We get together to make a beautiful noise. Join in, just listen, enjoy our company. It is free, though donations are welcome towards costs like room hire, songbooks, etc. Guide is £5, but whatever you can afford. ^_^
