The Beginner's Guide to Cycle Route Planning! - Online Event
Details
Zoom passcode: 372232 (Only RSVPed attendees can see the Zoom link)
If you have never really planned cycle trips before, but are interested in planning your own leisure cycle routes or are thinking about dipping your toe into cycle touring, then this is the event for you.
As we get up and running again for 2022, we'd like to offer some online fundraising events to help us cover some of our arrears for the previous two years, as well as top up the coffers for all the rides to come!
This is the first in (hopefully!) a series of online events to help skill up Belles on some of the topics that we get asked about the most. We get asked about planning safe routes all the time, so we are gonna pass on some of our knowledge to help you get planning, too.
What's the event about?
Our online route planning event will cover the following:
- showing some of the online tools that we use to help plan safe and accessible leisure rides and overnight cycling routes
- demonstrating tools including OS Maps, Open Street Map, Komoot, BikeMap, Google Maps and Google Streetview
- a live route planning demo, so you can see how you might go about planning routes from beginning to end using these tools
- covering things like planning accommodation, public transport links with a bike and being mindful of keeping yourself safe when planning routes
- answering any questions you might have
We hope this session will be of interest to any Belles who are keen to do more exploring by bike, but are just not very sure about how to plan and organise SAFE and accessible routes!
A note on the cost
This is a fundraising event for the group, so we are asking for a £5 donation to attend. The Belles have accrued around £350 of arrears over the last couple of years while trying to keep the lights on.
By RSVPing to this event, you'll be asked to settle for the £5 cost via PayPal.
We have huge thanks to give to Spokes, the Lothian Cycle Campaign, who have very kindly given us a donation to help us get back up and running this year, but we still have a shortfall to make up and hope that these online events can help with this.
A note on the online event
We will send around a Zoom link to attendees closer to the time of the event, and also post it up on this Meetup event for RSVPed attendees.
