Welcome to the Edinburgh JavaScript Meetup! We run monthly meetups for JavaScript enthusiasts. We are open to software developers of all skill levels and all backgrounds. We host technical talks, community introductions, networking and social events. October Meetup - From WordPress to Astro
TravelPerk, Nova House, 3-5 Ponton Street, Edinburgh, GBWelcome to the EdinburghJS October Meetup! We'll be meeting on Tuesday 21st October, 18:30 for light refreshments and talks at the TravelPerk offices, Nova House, 3-5 Ponton Street.
Our talk this month is from Emmanuel Demey on WordPress+Astro:
This talk presents a real-world migration experience of an institutional website from WordPress to Astro, demonstrating that WordPress isn't the only viable solution for semi-static (or semi-dynamic :P) websites.
I'll walk through our migration approach, the challenges we encountered, and the solutions we implemented. Beyond the migration itself, I'll showcase new dynamic features we've developed, including LinkedIn feed integration, blog functionality, and other content modules that bring life to our static-first architecture. We'll also present the custom libraries we've built to seamlessly integrate Astro, Zod, and Notion, enabling a powerful and type-safe content management workflow.
And if time permits, I might even develop a new feature live on stage—because I love live coding and there's no better way to demonstrate the simplicity and power of our stack in action.
