Large Scale Data Remediation in Finance

Details

In collaboration with Amii (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute) and MentorUP Alberta, we're excited to host our next event.

Rhys Chouinard, Data Scientist at ATB Financial and Tara Petrie, Machine Learning Educator at Amii will join us to present at the event.

Agenda:
5:45 pm - Refreshments and Mingling
6 pm - Presentation by Rhys Chouinard
7 pm - Presentation by Tara Petrie
8 pm - Head down to Baiju for networking

Topics of Presentation:

  1. Large Scale Data Remediation in Finance - A Full Stack OCR Journey (In other words Teaching Computers to Read, Think, and Act)

As a Data Scientist working within ATB's Enterprise Data Science team, Rhys spends most days creating new tools and models for business units, developing Minimum Viable Products and Proofs of Concept for machine learning driven solutions. Formerly with St. Albert as a Senior Corporate Analyst, Rhys worked on business intelligence, open data, economic research, analytics, data science, and evidence-based strategies & decisions. Additional duties included duties as a drone pilot, KPI dashboard administrator, and facility predictive model creator.

  1. Math in Machine Learning: Some Fundamentals.
This is not meant to be a rigorous fundamentals lecture in everything you need to know, but rather aims to give you enough of an overview of the underlying mathematics used in machine learning. Presently, computers tend to do most of the math for us, but understanding these mathematical concepts can help develop your intuition as to why things work the way they do. We will walk through some fundamental concepts in calculus, linear algebra, and statistics, all of which are essential to the mechanics of machine learning. This talk does not require any prior mathematical knowledge and participants are encouraged to ask questions.

Tara (MSc) is a Machine Learning Educator for Amii, working to enhance machine intelligence knowledge for businesses and individuals. She received her master of science degree in mathematics from Simon Fraser University with a focus on discrete math and combinatorics. Tara is driven by the joy of sharing math and science with others.

The event is open to EVERYONE. Light refreshments will be served.

The event is sponsored by MentorUp Alberta and Amii.
