Please join us for a meetup for Effective Altruism Chicago! For this meetup, Dan Wahl will present on a fascinating topic:

Widespread childhood lead exposure in the 20th century resulted in devastating consequences for the affected individuals and communities. While progress has been made in remediating the worst offenders (paint and gasoline), the remaining lead in legacy infrastructure continues to poison children, even locally in Chicago.

This talk will provide an introduction to the history of lead poisoning, the plausible neurological mechanism by which it causes individual harm, the myriad correlations between lead exposure and negative societal impacts, and the case for lead poisoning as an EA cause priority.
