Eindhoven IoT: WORKSHOPS Indoor Air Sensor and/or Node Red on RaspberryPi
Details
Join our regular IoT Projects meetup in our new location at the Smart Venue (Effenaar), within easy walking distance of Eindhoven Station. With our hands-on Community Projects we aim to bring all levels of expertise together to focus on building accessible end-to-end IoT solutions for community led City and Home applications; and in the process to learn from each other about IoT solution development from hardware to software, data and security, user interface and usability.
We will start this week with an option between two hands-on projects arranged by our community members:
- NodeRed on Raspberry Pi
The visual programming tool Node-RED makes it easy to wire together IoT flows and deploy in a single-click. In this workshop we go step-by-step through setting up NodeRed on a RaspberryPi to use as a programming tool and event-processing engine for your personal IoT projects.

You will need to bring a laptop, RaspberryPi (Model 3 or 4)
AND SD Card minimum 16GB ideally with Raspbian Buster Lite already installed (optional to save some time but we can do this in the workshop) https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
- Indoor Environment Sensor part 1: Wifi connection
To create a Indoor Environment Sensor we will start with the ESP8266 platform together with www.esphome.io this is an easy way to integrate sensors and actuators in your home network, or simply, create a standalone sensor module with a display.
SEE BASIC PARTS LIST BELOW TO ORDER YOUR HARDWARE NEEDED FOR THE WORKSHOP
To start you just need any ESP8266 or ESP32 board with an USB connection (like Wemos or NodeMCU). To create a ‘sensor-in-a-box’ the NodeMCU is the best fit for the available open-source 3D-Printing files (via Thingiverse). For this workshop feel free to bring any sensor, in a follow-on workshop we will add a CO2 sensor (MH-17B).
The links below will direct you to TinyTronics for the basic parts as needed. Be aware to order in time, or pick up at TinyTronics in Eindhoven. We will have several Wemos sets and sensors available to loan/test. Just bring your laptop and we are ready to go!
