PLEASE NOTE: VENUE CHANGE - the meetup will be held in the basement of COMOTION 302 which is different from our regular venue of COMOTION on KING.
DOORS OPEN AT 7PM for 7:15 START.
OPEN TO ALL AGES AND EXPERIENCES
There are 30 free kits available for the soldering challenge and these are available as first come first served on the night to the first 30 people to register on the sign up sheet. The top two fastest soldering times will each win a used Tektronix Oscilloscope 2213A courtesy of The University Of Toronto Physics Department.
There will also be a “Learn to solder” area at which experienced members of the meetup will help and teach you to solder both through hole and SMD components.
30 parts kits are available courtesy of our generous sponsors:
PCB Way (PCBs)
Aim Solder (Solder)
Panasonic (Components)
Wurth Electronics (Components)

Hakko (Soldering Irons, Tweezers and Side Cutters)
University of Toronto Physics Department (Oscilloscope Prizes)
Soldering Challenge Rules:
AIM: The fastest person to hand solder all levels of the challenge board (minus the level 7 BGA) will win.
RULES:
-The clock will start the moment the soldering iron is removed from the stand and will stop the moment that levels 1-6 are working (circuits are lit/flashing with 9V battery) and the board is cleaned. Level 7 BGA is optional but all other level 7 components are not.
-Poor soldering (such as too much solder, non cut legs etc) will result in a 10 second penalty per offence and this will be added to the final time.
-Competitors will go in turn against the clock and results recorded on the leaderboard.
-Competitors will solder without the aid of magnification
-Competitors will have the aid of a pair of provided tweezers, side cutters, solder and soldering iron.
-Competitors will only be given one set of components, if any component is lost during the competition a replacement will not be given. Thus testing skill and accuracy.
-Judges decision is final.
There will be some time whilst people are milling around and waiting to compete so bring a project - it doesn’t have to be finished or even working - nerds always talk better when they have something to show. Looking forward to seeing what everyone’s been upto.
