Questo gruppo è dedicato alla diffusione, allo studio e all'approfondimento del linguaggio di programmazione Elixir e di tutti i linguaggi di programmazione supportati dalla BEAM.
Cerchiamo di mantenere i nostri incontri regolari: 2 ore (19:30 - 21:30) il primo lunedì del mese.
Non hai bisogno di essere un esperto di Elixir o Erlang per partecipare alle riunioni, lo scopo del gruppo è proprio quello di aiutarci e supportarci a vicenda nel percorso di apprendimento.
Cosa é Elixir? È un linguaggio di programmazione funzionale pensato per costruire applicazioni scalabili e manutenibili.
Cosa è la BEAM? È la virtual machine che interpreta il codice prodotto dal compilatore di Elixir (la BEAM é per Elixir quello che la JVM è per Java) è nota per la sua bassa latenza e per il fatto di essere particolarmente adatta per la costruzione di sistemi distribuiti e fault-tolerant.
Cosa è Erlang? È un altro dei linguaggi supportati dalla BEAM nonché il linguaggio per cui la BEAM è stata pensata.

Beyond your first NIF
Quartiere Porta Nuova, Piazza Gae Aulenti Milano, Milano, MI, ITYou’ve written your first NIF that adds two numbers together, hooray! Now where do you go from here?
This talk digs deeper into the erl_nif interface, showcasing what it offers you for building high performance NIFs.We will start by learning how to avoid the Cardinal Sin of NIFs, blocking the scheduler. Then we’ll move on to handling data more complex than a simple integer. We’ll see how to efficiently work with Elixir maps and binaries, and how to safely manage stateful resources that need to be cleaned up by the BEAM’s garbage collector.
Did you know that you can monitor a process from a NIF? Or that you can send a message to a GenServer using its registered name? We will go over all the different ways a NIF can interact with the BEAM, extending its capabilities well beyond executing a simple chunk of synchronous code. NIFs are also capable of bringing the whole BEAM down, so we’ll learn some techniques to debug that pesky segfault when things go wrong.
Finally, all the concepts we discuss will be valid regardless of your implementation language. We’ll explore the available choices and the libraries that make using each language more ergonomic.
About the speaker
Riccardo Binetti started his career as an embedded developer, but switched to backend development as soon as he discovered (and fell in love with) Elixir. He has been using Elixir as his primary language since 2017 and he is an active contributor to various open-source projects.==================================================================
