Emerald Coast Archaelogy Society (ECAS)is a group of amateur archaeology enthusiasts that is a chapter of the Florida Anthropological Society serving Okaloosa, Walton, and Bay Counties. Our speciality is archaeology projects that are too small for universities and cultural resource management firms, or too immediate for them to respond in a timely manner. Our local branch, ECAS, seeks to inform our members of archaeological events of interest, especially in our local communities. Our group organizes local semi-monthly 1 hr programs that have interesting speakers covering subjects like historical local turpentining, local geology, the european contact period and indian artifacts, just to mention a few. At a minimum, we have one weekend, local, public archaeological dig a year. We love archaeology and want to share what we discover about our northwest florida past with other interested individuals. We provide our expertise, generally at no charge to local individuals, local government agencies, and local companies who have archaeological questions that would otherwise go unanswered. We try to do the archaeology that otherwise would not be done. Please join us!
