Engineering Machine Consciousness Pages

This group has been established as a focal point for work and discussion on consciousness and specifically if and how consciousness may be created in a machine.

The significance of this would be profound. Such a machine would presumably be subject to moral consideration and have unenalienable rights.

Consciousness as the basis of all morality can be demonstrated by a simple inductive device.
1. There has never been an action that is considered morally charged wherin the agent of that action was not considered conscious.
2. There has never been an action that is considered morally charged wherin that action did not or could not affect any conscious agent.

I therefore offer the hypothesis that consciousness is a necessary condition for morality.
