What we're about
The idea of having this group came after my experience about speaking English days ago. I told my colleague that I am going to USBank that afternoon, and my colleague commented that this "band" had a fantastic name but he hadn't heard about it before. Then I took a bus to go to the bank, and since it was during the Minnesota State Fair, the route was under detour at several stops. I asked the bus driver which stop I was supposed to take off to go to USBank. My driver shook his head and said he was not familiar with the place I was mentioning (in fact he didn't catch what I said of USBank). Fortunately, a passenger standby between us was warm-hearted and told me the very last stop was the one for me to take off as it was the closest one to USBank Stadium. Two things were learned: first, of course, check out bus route detours before taking a bus during Minnesota State Fair; and second, speaking American English in a way easy to catch would make life easier.
The way to improve is practice English in this group: this is a group for anyone interested in practicing speaking American English, including practicing vocabularies, phrases, pronunciation, and local accents. Minnesotans are nice, and they usually tend to be nicer when they easily understand what others are talking about -- people do not expect a difficult conversation in most situations. With that goals in mind, the group events can be diverse but effective. Suggestions are more than welcome!
