Watch film about William Wallace and discuss his role in Scottish history

The next Regular Meet up be on Wednesday 17th November (There's also one on Japanese film - see separate post) and will be about William Wallace.  See clip from Mel Gibson video below:

William Wallace

The Mel Gibson version is fictionalised.  At the Meet up, however,  I hope we can gain an insight into what Wallace was really like, his role in Scottish history, and his present day legacy.

The next session after the 17  November will be on 1st December and will be about Robert the Bruce. See below for movie based on Bruce's life:

Robert the Bruce

As a follow-up, we will have a study tour  in the SSC 'SSCOOL' minibus to Stirling, where we can see the Wallace Monument and Bannockburn (the site where Robert the Bruce defeated the English at the  'Battle ofBannockburn.'  We will also go to Stirling Castle, where you can see how Mary Queen of Scots' father, and mother, James V and Catherine of Guise, lived.  A tentative date for this study tour is Saturday Dec.  10.  (Minibus seats are limited, and priority will be given to those who attend the preparatory 'Wallace' and 'Bruce' Meet up sessions.)

N.B.  For the study tour there is a charge to cover the transport costs and you would also have to pay entrance fees to historical sites, if you want to go inside.
