Public sector health workers face poverty in Cambridgeshire

Details
This month we expose appalling levels of in-work poverty for the people caring for our health as we find high levels of deprivation among all bands of UNISON healthcare workers in Cambridgeshire.
Lead researcher for The Cambridge Commons, Dr Claire Preston, will talk through the key findings from a research collaboration with UNISON ahead of the full publication later in the month, including:
- over 8 out of 10 surveyed UNISON healthcare workers faced financial difficulties
- respondents spent 43% of their income on housing and over a third could not save
- two-thirds of low and mid-pay respondents regularly borrowed from family and friends
Claire is a research fellow at the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education at Anglia Ruskin University specialising in social connections and loneliness later in life.
We are also holding our AGM which will take place before Claire's talk.
Agenda:
- Review of 2018/19: contributions from current Chair & Treasurer
- Proposed changes to constitution
- Election of Officers: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer
As always there'll be lots of opportunity to mix and talk, plus a brief update on what's happening in The Cambridge Commons to get inequality higher up the agenda.
