The Erlang language and system was designed around a set of requirements for telecom systems.

This talk will describe the development of the language and the design of systems based on the Erlang. It will also look at the further development with the introduction of new languages in the Erlang environment - the Erlang ecosystem.

Robert Virding is Principal Language Expert at Erlang Solutions Ltd. He is one of the co-inventors of Erlang, a programming language he worked on whilst at the Ericsson Computer Science Lab. He participated in the original system design, contributing many of the original libraries and tools, including the current compiler and wrote one of the first virtual machines, the VEE.
