Countryside & Craters, Weekend Escape to.....ETHIOPIA! Ethiopia at a Glance Ethiopia is Africa's cultural capital. As the only African nation never under colonial rule, it is overflowing with culture, ancient traditions, and historical treasures. To travel here is a testing, awe-inspiring, journey. Addis Ababa, the capital, is home to nearly 3.5 million and is an interesting mix of past and present. Nature lovers will come away with memories of incredible scenery. This Escape will give you a unique opportunity to visit one of the world's most culturally dense nations while enjoying its untouched countryside without having to worry about crowds of tourists, yet...! Trip Options 1. "Weekend Only Trip" - Thursday evening, Oct. 11th to Saturday night, Oct. 13th 2. "Weekend + 1 Day" Trip - Thursday evening, Oct. 11th to Sunday night, Oct. 14th Itinerary Day 1 - Thursday, Oct. 11th: Arrival in Addis Addis Ababa has good claim to being the capital of Africa! Upon your arrival you'll be transferred to our hotel and you'll have the option of getting some rest of exploring the city at night and getting to know how people enjoy the night in Addis! Day 2 – Friday, Oct. 12th: Wenchi Crater Lake Today we will experience the stunning nature of Wenchi Crater Lake, situated to the west of Addis Ababa. It's an area of spectacular beauty and well worth the drive! Upon arrival at the lake, our guides and horses will meet us and take us around the lake (horses available for assistance). We'll see hot spring waterfalls, water mills, farms and village houses and may even see locals relaxing in mud baths - a true taste of rural life! We will enjoy a picnic lunch before taking a boat ride to Wenchi Chirkos Monastery, built in the 15th century. Day 3 – Saturday, Oct. 13th: Addis Ababa Explored Today is dedicated to exploring the country's capital. We'll visit the Addis Ababa Ethnological Museum, home to a unique display of Ethiopian cultural artifacts, and the living quarters of Haile Sellasie - Ethiopia's most famous emporer and, according to the rastafari religion, the incarnation of God on earth. After a day of absorbing some history and culture, we'll have a relaxing dinner at Yod Abyssinia - a famous Ethiopian restaurant with live music and traditional dancing - a cultural feast not to be missed! *Travellers that are on the "Weekend Only" trip will be transferred to the airport after dinner Day 4 - Sunday, Oct. 14th: Debre Libanos Monastery & The Countryside ("Weekend + A Day" trip only) Today we will head north, to the Monastery of Debre Libanos. We'll pass through rolling hillsides dotted with picturesque villages, one of which we'll have the chance to visit, catching a rare glimpse into rural Ethiopian life. We'll also take in the native bird species and see baboons if we're lucky! We'll enjoy lunch in the countryside and make our way back to the capital. After some free time explore the shops, we will make our way back to the airport in time for everyone's flight home! Escape Kuwait is for anyone living in the region that loves to travel! We host weekend getaways and longer vacations in a group setting; meeting like-minded people who love to see the world is what we're all about. We have had over 50 members travel to over 30 countries in the Middle East, South East Asia, East Africa and Eastern Europe. We focus on gaining a cultural experience while meeting new people. We also do specialized outdoor adventures (trekking, white water rafting, safaris) and yoga retreats!
