18:30 - 21:00 Simon Montford (https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonmontford/) (WEB3//IOT (http://www.web3iot.com/))
As it's the very first EthScotland Meetup, I thought it would be best to keep the agenda reasonably unstructured. I will start by explaining what Blockchain technology is and why it has the potential to be so disruptive. I will then explain in very simple (and non-technical) terms how Ethereum works. We will then learn about smart contracts, cryptocurrency, the concept of gas, and decentralised apps. This will be followed by a brief overview of how distributed, trustless networks could become the catalyst for an entirely new kind of decentralised machine-centric world wide web aka "Web 3.0" aka the "Machine Economy".
Time permitting, I would also like to cover some of the hottest issues being discussed within the crypto community right now that include BTC v ETH, ICO madness, Proof-of-Work v Proof-of-Stake, EOS v IOTA v Tazos, Blockchain v The Tangle (DAG), and scalability challenges.
If there's a topic you'd like us to cover, or you'd like to speak or recommend a domain expert that we should invite to speak then please get in touch - simon at web3iot dot com.
