After years of debate, the finale of the bitcoin scaling crisis is upon us. On August 1st some nodes might attempt to force segwit by way of a user-activated softfork (UASF). Another solution "segwit2x" (comprising of a softfork and a hardfork) is also expected to be deployed before that. Meanwhile ethereum has had its own scaling troubles during the recent ICO craze.
This meetup we'll look at what is happening with bitcoin on UASF flag day and what this is all about. Afterwards there will be a presentation about ethereums scaling problem and its roadmap.
To celebrate Bitcoin Austria and Ethereum Vienna meetup groups reaching 1000 members, the reopening of RIAT for events and the 2 year anniversary of the ethereum blockchain there will also be more Dogecoin cake.
This is a joint event with Bitcoin Austria (https://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Austria/events/241589101/). Please RSVP only to one of the meetup events.
1) Scaling Bitcoin
To Fork or NOT to fork, that is the question.
Andreas will give an introduction to the scaling issues in bitcoin and then move on to segwit and block size increases.
2) Scaling Ethereum
The plan for scaling Ethereum consists of both onchain improvements and offchain mechanisms.
In this presentation we'll look at ethereums current scalability mechanisms and explore the ideas behind technologies like raiden, state channels, sharding and others.
UPDATE: Due to recent events I will also cover the aftermath of the recent parity multisig hack.
3) Socialising and Blockchain Analysis
