This book club welcomes everyone. The purpose is to get together once a month for the opportunity to engage in lively conversation, and to learn lots along the way. This is not a pretentious club - our aim is to open a platform to learn more about feminism and meet other interesting people over a drink at the pub!
We will meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm at The Eton Mess in Eton. There is free parking in Meadow Lane car park from 7 pm. We are really looking forward to meeting you all :)
We have moved things online for the time being until things get back to normal. Next month we thought we would tick a book off your BLM reading list and read 'Me and White Supremacy: How to Recognise Your Privilege, Combat Racism and Change the World' by Layla Saad.
Looking forward to catching up then :)
Me and White Supremacy teaches readers how to dismantle the privilege within themselves so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on people of colour, and in turn, help other white people do better, too.
When Layla Saad began an Instagram challenge called #MeAndWhiteSupremacy, she never predicted it would spread as widely as it did. She encouraged people to own up and share their racist behaviours, big and small. She was looking for truth, and she got it. Thousands of people participated in the challenge, and over 90,000 people downloaded the Me and White Supremacy Workbook.
The updated and expanded Me and White Supremacy takes the work deeper by adding more historical and cultural contexts, sharing moving stories and anecdotes, and including expanded definitions, examples, and further resources.
Awareness leads to action, and action leads to change. The numbers show that readers are ready to do this work - let's give it to them.
