TOPIC:

The mind.

One would imagine that as creatures with minds, we might understand what that means. However, we tend to take our minds for granted, rarely pondering the philosophical implications. Brains seem to be the hardware, while minds are the software, but this raises several interesting questions:

What is a mind?
What qualities might give rise to minds?
What are minds for? What purpose do they serve?
Do all things with brains have minds, or are minds more rare than that? Is there any way of knowing?
Are minds limited to brains, could minds exist in other mediums such as computers?
How does this relate to consciousness? Can either exist without the other?

Location and Price:

Upstairs there are many tables and chairs where people can gather and eat. If it's a nice day out, we may sit out on the covered balcony. As always there is a suggested, but by no means necessary, $2 donation which goes towards helping cover the costs of the meetup.
