Who is your favorite philosopher, and why?

I don't have a favorite philosopher. As with music or art, preference for me is something that changes with the immediate circumstances. I like anyone who can cogently support a useful position on an engaging topic without letting personal conviction dominate the argument. That said, I tend to find secular and humanist philosophers engaging.

What attracted you to join this group?

I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to engage in recreational intellectual discussion.

How do you define philosophy? There is no wrong answer.

I define philosophy as the attempt to find answers to questions that don't lend themselves to empirical obvservation (which are better answered by science) or logical proof (which are better answered by mathematics).
