First Stop

  1. Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site The only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady, Val-Kill welcomes you as Mrs. Roosevelt welcomed her many guests. Visitors may tour Mrs. Roosevelt's Val-Kill Cottage and enjoy the lovely gardens and grounds on the site. Val-Kill is a special place that serves as a window into Eleanor Roosevelt's private and public life. Its understated beauty, natural setting, and unpretentious amenities may appear surprising to first-time visitors because of its simplicity; a vision that seems incongruous with expectations for the home of one of the most influential women in American history. She continued the tradition of casual entertaining, hosting world dignitaries such as Winston Churchill, Marshal Tito, Haile Selassie, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Democratic Party politicians came seeking her advice and support, including presidential candidates Adlai Stevenson and John F. Kennedy. https://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/presidents/eleanor_roosevelt_valkill.html

  2. http://www.millbrookwine.com/about/family/ In 1982 after some successful plantings of vinifera grapes on his father’s farm in Millbrook, New York, John Dyson purchased the 130 acre Wing Dairy Farm for his first vineyard and winemaking venture . The southwest facing slopes of the former dairy farm with its gravelly soil proved excellent for viticulture and in 1983 the first plantings were made at the site of what is today Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. Mill-brook Vineyards & Winery was the first vineyard in the Hudson River Region of New York State dedicated exclusively to the production of vinifera grapes. It’s founding principles were viticulture, innovation and experimentation, as well as excellence in winemaking. In 1984 winemaker, John Graziano was brought on board as the winemaker and the initial plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon were quite successful. Pleased with those results, John decided to expand his commitment to making high-quality New York wines.

Mill brook Vineyards & Winery’s 30 acres of vines include plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and an Italian grape varietal called Tocai Friulano. The winery officially opened for tours and tasting in 1988 and today produces between 10-12,000 cases of wine annually. The winery has earned recognition for these wines in such prestigious publications such as Wine Spectator, The New York Times, The New York Daily News, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Encyclopedia of Wine, Kevin Zraly’s Windows on the World-Complete Wine Course and Bon Appetit Magazine.

  1. Next Clinton Vineyards http://clintonvineyards.com/ Clinton Vineyards combines tradition and innovation to create high quality Estate-Bottled wines. Our Cassis is the only domestic black currant wine to win gold medals at an international judging. 3. Next We have a Tour of a Haunted Castle Tour " Wing’s Castle" is the brainchild of artists Toni Ann Wing and her late husband, Peter. It’s been featured on Extreme Homes on HGTV and soon-to-be on the History Channel. A visit and tour there will leave you mesmerized by the antique memorabilia and collectibles; everything from military to primitive trinkets, each with their own story to tell.

Wings Castle is featured on the Travel Channel http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/roadside-attractions/video/wing-s-castle 4. After the Castle Tour we will Attempt to Visit to the The abandoned Bennett School for Girls, once called Bennett College up until the 1970s, is another one of those sites, but is perhaps one of the creepiest places we’ve seen so far. The mere silhouette it strikes against the sky brings to mind a cross between a Gothic murder mystery mansion and and a haunted castle. 5. Then Dinner @ The Fabulous La Terrazza in New City.
