Daytrip to Dinant

Details

Just 100km from Brussels, in the heart of the Ardennes and alongside the river La Meusse lies the beautiful citadel city of Dinant. This little town has a rich history and several beautiful tourist attractions.

During our day trip we visit: the Citadel, the cave La Merveilleuse, and we'll make a boat tour on the river. We travel by train (about 1h35) through the Belgian landscape. Indeed, only the train ride itself (reserved seats) is worth the trip, and with many other expats this will be one of the most fun rides you have ever had.

In Dinant we visit the citadel (by cable car) that is located on a steep cliff 100 meters above the city, offering its visitors a splendid panorama. This impressive building's history goes back to the 15th century, although it was rebuilt several times after.

Additionally, we walk through the magnificent, or better "marvelous" cave La Merveilleuse, that was discovered only in 1904 by construction workers. Among the many impressive caves in the Ardennes (for instance the Caves of Han), La Merveilleuse is especially known for its fine white stalactites and waterfalls. Do not forget to bring appropriate clothes as it is only 14 degrees.

During the afternoon we make a scenic 45-minute tour on La Meusse towards Anseremme. Of course we'll try to capture the best spots on board where we can sit as a group to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Depending on time, we can further explore the village. For instance, we could visit the Maison Leffe, where you actually learn everything about the beer and taste it as well. Also we could enjoy an early dinner before heading back to Brussels as a group.

Btw, did you know that the inventor of the Saxophone, Adolph Sax, was born in Dinant almost two centuries ago (1814)?
