This is a group that brings together EXPERIENCED folks in the literary world who wish to be a regular, dedicated participant in a special Meetup group that gathers in the Oak Park area; who wish to get to know and talk with like souls in formal meetups and informally; who wish to have an informed, knowledgeable cohort (perhaps even a tribe) who are there for insights, advice, critiques, support, commiseration.
Are you: • a published author (self-published if fine, but something more than a vanity project)? • a professional writer? • a professional editor? • a professional book designer? • a professional bookseller? • a professional literary agent? • something else but pretty sure you would be a valuable, equal member of this group?
No disrespect is meant to amateur literati; indeed, some amateurs may qualify as well as the professionals. There IS a place for the many Meetups that are open to all and welcome those with both experience and dreams, those both immersed in the publishing life and those who dabble, those who regularly attend and those who drop in occasionally (though I’m not sure there should be a place for those who just wish to sign up for another Meetup but never attend, ballooning the membership roles). This just isn’t one of those groups, which is why it is set up as Private. The eventual size, membership and dynamics of the group aren’t set in stone. But it is meant to be kept small (6, 12, 25? I have doubts about 25) and active enough that members can help it mature, be democratic (in the purest social sense), with multiple Co-Organizers, not a czar in charge.
