Are you excited by innovative and imaginative uses of data? We are too!
Experimental Data Science is a community for people interested to apply their data skills creatively to open sources and real world challenges.
Open to anyone, from any industry - data scientists, engineers, data visualisers, analysts, social scientists or students.
We like collaboration, we like challenge, we like approaching data tasks creatively. Join us to discuss emerging data science techniques, find novel applications for well-known principles and to share ideas with peers and industry leaders.
Don’t come expecting to listen to a guru and find the magic bullet answer. Come ready to debate, collaborate and play!
Note: Since our events have limited slots, please cancel your RSVPs if you're unable to make it. 3 no-shows will lead to expulsion from the group.
Despite efforts from governments and tech-giants the problem of fakes, cyber bullying and sensationalist news reigns strong. Online anonymity and obscurity of sources is a major factor that prevents accountability and fact checking.
A BBC expert in the fight against Fake News will join us for a technical showcase and debate, as we share ways to track the provenance of content online. At the end of the evening the best contribution will be awarded $100.
Come to the session prepared with suggestions for (scaleable) ideas to trace the first publicly available instance of a fake story. Even better if your process include ways to track use and corruption of images/ new stories over time.
