Inceptions: Building foundations for successful product delivery
Details
Starting anything new is hard.
The common root causes? Misaligned values and expectations, overlooked risks, missed dependencies and unsophisticated approaches to managing uncertainty and complexity.
We’ve all experienced the pain when things go pear-shaped, but also the joy when things work out. The most frustrating thing is when that pain could have been avoided. Make no mistake, the complex interplay of people, processes and technologies will always bring change, uncertainty and unknowns. But by acknowledging and addressing these factors early, we can massively reduce the various types of risks we’re exposed to.
This is why we run Inceptions. They systematically address the issues that threaten to derail deliveries, helping us to reduce risk, build trust and achieve alignment. Alignment vertically between delivery teams and overarching strategy, and horizontally between disciplines. This allows teams to ensure that what they deliver is not only feasible, but also viable and desirable.
In this talk, we present why and how we run Inceptions as a structured way for kicking off any initiative, be this a project, service, product or feature development… and thus set our teams up for success. We share our thoughts and experiences based on real world examples of running Inceptions, what to consider, what ‘good’ looks like, but also where we struggled… so you won’t have to.
