  • Join us for our last trip of 2016 as we head along the North Downs Way to Box Hill, within the Surrey Hills designated Area of Natural Beauty. Our path takes in some climbs but the views from the top are well worth the effort. Later in the day and after the post lunch pub stop we will enjoy an easier stroll along the pretty River Mole.

Box Hill is named after the rare box woodland found on its slopes and is part of one of the first land purchases made by the National Trust, the first acquisition by Sir Robert Hunter was at a cost of £16,000 in 1910. Other parts were bought later and some were gifted by Mr Leopold Salomons whose viewing platform is pictured above.

    In More Detail:

Meet at 09:00 at Victoria Railway Station. Tom will be stood by the ticket office inside the building and will have your tickets ready for you. Tom will be wearing his lime green hoodie.

We will have a picnic lunch so make sure you buy a sandwich or bring a pack-up. There is a pub where we will be booked in for food at the end. Also remember you need water and a waterproof. There are toilets at the start, middle and finish on this walk.

The Trip Cost is £18.50 which includes your train fare and full day guided hike by a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader (MLTE). The trip cost is non refundable and sold as a package, however, if you live local to the walk and do not need a train ticket please email Tom or Louise.

Early Bird Discount! - first five to sign up get £5 off (therefore trip cost is £13.50)

    Things to bring:

Picnic lunch, water, suitable walking boots/shoes and clothing including waterproof, your camera, some money for food and drink if you would like to stop in the pub at the end.

    Things to wear:

You must have a waterproof and other sensible clothing/footwear for a hike.

Please note there are risks associated with all outdoor activity, this is a nine mile hike and although we are not one of the fast groups we ask that you are reasonably fit and wear suitable clothing and footwear. The terrain is uneven and may be slippery - smooth soled shoes/boots/fashion trainers and footwear with heels are not suitable (list is not exhaustive). Please avoid doing anything that would put you or other members of the group in danger. In signing up for this trip you agree to the Explorer UK terms and conditions and accept responsibility for any risk of personal injury associated with the walk.  If you are bringing a guest please ensure that they have read this notice and walk description before they agree to come. This walk is not suitable for children or pet dogs.

I will post a weather forecast the night before.

    Hope you can come

    Best wishes

By what time do you think we will be back to London?

    • Tom

Hi Marta. It's difficult to give an exact time, but with the short days at present we are likely to be at the end of the hike by 4pm. You could then miss out on the pub and head straight back into London. Hope this helps, Lou
