Looking for better results from your social media presence? Join us online as Jennifer Casey speaks with us about how we can get the most out of all that time we spend "working" on Facebook/Google+. We will be using Google+ Hangout's 'On Air' feature so that we can accommodate everyone who wants to participate.

Here is a preview of some of the information that will be covered during this online presentation on social media.

Hi everyone!

I'm lucky to have connected with Jon Beard through multiple mutual photography friends and I'm very happy to collaborate with Exposure Roanoke. I wanted to share a little bit about myself. I'm a little bit of an everything photographer in the Annapolis MD area. I shoot a lot of landscapes, portraits, and offer photography workshops, workshop trips, and private lessons. Over the last few years I have gained a lot of experience and insights to offer on the topic of social media.

Here is an example of the growth I've experienced in a short time because of social media.

-In it's first year my meet up group Naptown Photo (www.meetup.com/naptownphoto) has grown to over 350 members.

-In the last 18 months my Facebook fan page has grown to over 2000 fans. (www.facebook.com/photographybyjennifercasey

-I have also created a Facebook fan page to promote Maryland Photographers focused on cross exposure potential. The Maryland Beauty page (www.facebook.com/marylandbeauty) is nearing 2000 fans as we approach it's 1 year mark.

-To encourage portrait growth in my photography business I created a separate portrait photography fan page. (www.facebook.com/jennifercaseyportraits) This page had over 350 fans in it's first month.

-I am selling prints online consistently and just sold out of 2014 calendars. 90% of my prints sales are online and to people I haven't met. They connected with me though social media and purchased online.

If it weren't for Facebook and social media my photography business would not be what it is today by any means. I really just wanted to give you all a little background on myself and my social media growth over the last few years.

During our talk I will share a lot of information with you all including my favorite tips and tricks. What to post, when to post it, and how to know what your fans like and dislike through post insights. We'll talk about the various social media platforms that are available to you and how to choose which to focus on. When we are done you will have a lot of information to soak in but you should have a good understanding on where to start and what to focus on.

Because this is a google hangout on air it will be broadcast and recorded on youtube. Jon will post the link for viewing the broadcast in real time. It will also be available to view for two weeks for those who missed it or those who would like to watch it again. I will also provide a PDF of the most important aspects of social media marketing for photographers so that you all will have materials to refer back to.

If anyone has any questions that they would liked covered please leave it in a comment below.

Again thanks for inviting me to share with Exposure Roanoke!

-Jen Casey

At first I got a little disinterested because of the difficulty with the site. I do realize all this was beyond Jennifer's control. I did hang in there and enjoyed the presentation. Learned some about social media and have applied a few things I picked up. Because of this, I have noticed more traffic to my photo page on FB. Have picked up 12 "likes" in a week. On my Fine Art America haven't seen much there, but did receive an e-mail from someone in NC interested in a photo - did give them a discount number for the photo, but no sale at this time ( that was yesterday) This contact was directly from posting my FAA info in a FB photography group. So what little bit I have done is working. I also started a group on FB-Bland County Photographers-was surprised at the response. I would definitely recommend applying the tips that Jennifer reviewed - the response I have personally seen for me is exciting. Now to open a flickr account! lol

Was a delightful presentation, I learned a lot about Social Media and how to use it. I am a user of Social Media, but not of all the tools available. As I plan on selling my arts, crafts and photography in the future. This may help me setup my websites in a better way. THANK YOU.

What a lot of information! Wow! I have Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, Facebook and a personal Blog. None of them, however, are 100% photography photos or photography related....except Flickr. I can see where all of these social media sites would be beneficial for anyone wishing to market themselves. You have done an outstanding job! Thanks again.

I had a previously scheduled meeting tonight but was able to cut it short, which enabled me to catch most of the presentation. Well worth the watch. For those that arranged this, thanks. Jennifer ... great job.

Thanks Dale! I'm glad you had a chance to watch the presentation.

I couldn't leave work is there any way I can view what was covered??? Sorry

There were some technical issues, but, otherwise some good information and ideas.

    • Jennifer C.

Thanks Michael. I'm glad you found the information interesting and thanks for sticking with me through the technical difficulties.

Thank you Jennifer. Very informative presentation, and you remained un rattled when there were some technical problems!

...and she was just getting over an illness - she did a great job of hanging in there...

    • Jennifer C.

Thanks guys! My on air wasn't mirroring my whole desktop and it wouldn't let me toggle to any other options. In addition I couldn't see any of your questions at first so I didn't know there was a problem. I'm so glad it worked out and that many of you stuck with me. Sometimes you can do everything right and follow all of the directions and even practice first and things can go wrong. You just have to go with it and switch gears to problem solving mode.

Hope a reminder will be sent out. LOL and complete directions!

    January 13, 2014

    • Jennifer C.

The meetup group should send you an automated reminder depending in your settings. You can always put it on your calendar with a reminder alarm ;) then at 6:45pm the day of the event you can check here and a link will be posted. Just click the link and you'll see the presentation being broadcast on YouTube. I hope this helps!

Now if I can just figure out how to find
    google+ Hangout's "On Air" feature.

    December 30, 2013

    • Jon B.

You shouldn't need to for this meetup. It'll be like watching a YouTube video, but it'll be a live broadcast. I will post a link to the broadcast here when it begins.

    • constance l.

      thanks

      December 31, 2013

  • John S.

Would love to do this, but won't be available on that date. Will be interested to talk with those of you that are able to participate and pick your brains.

    December 30, 2013

    • Linda B.

I plan on being there, but on-line reference would be nice.

      December 30, 2013

    • Jennifer C.

I think we can let it be available for a limited time on youtube. I'm often paid to speak on this topic and don't want the whole talk out on youtube for free indefinitely. Maybe a two week time frame to give everyone a chance to watch it? I also have a PDF with all of the most important information that I will definitely share with everyone. I'm really looking forward to sharing with the Exposure Roanoke group!

How do we find the right hangout? I have had trouble in the past finding them without a direct link. Help would be appreciated.;-)

    December 30, 2013

    • Jon B.

I plan to post the link in the comments section here once it's up and running.
