Terms Of Service

FAAST Terms of Service
By requesting membership in this meetup group, you agree to abide by Meetup's Terms of Service as well as the following FAAST "Rules." Specifically, from Meetup's TOS, you agree not to harm or intimidate another person in any way, impersonate any person or entity, or "stalk" or otherwise harass another member of the group.

FAAST was formed to provide a fun social group for the irreligious and those who are questioning religion. FAAST is a private meetup group – only members of the group may view our events, message boards, etc. Our group’s structure is democratic – a team of co-organizers makes collective decisions in consultation with the membership at large. The “FSM Organizer” is not a real person. We have a treasurer who accepts donations for keeping the group running, but there are no required fees. Some FAAST events will be adult-only, and others will be kid-friendly; it is up to the discretion of the organizer of any particular event.

The only requirement for membership is that you are seeking and offering mutual support and friendship to other free thinkers, and that your participation in activities and the message board will be respectful of others.

In the spirit of the purpose of Meetup (i.e. to meet people face to face and foster social interaction), we encourage members to use their real first names and real photos of themselves here. This is a private group, and only other group members can see your posts and RSVPs. Using your real name and photo will help folks get to know you more quickly and easily. Part of the reason this group was created was for nonbelievers to have a safe, private way to socialize and interact, and we hope to foster an environment in which members do not feel the need for anonymity. So we request (but do not require) that you use your real name and photo as a FAAST member.

When FAAST members come together either in person or on-line, the expectation is always that mutual respect and civility will prevail to ensure that every member has the optimum opportunity to participate and benefit from her or his involvement. Disruptions of any kind affect the atmosphere of civility that is expected, and interfere with the purpose, goals and benefits of FAAST to which all members are entitled. Each member is responsible for ensuring that his or her own behavior promotes these goals regardless of the behavior of other members. Please refrain from name-calling. Please do not subject fellow FAAST members to proselytizing of any kind (religious, political, dietary, etc.). If your main purpose is to convert others to your point of view, this is not the group for you.

COMMERCIAL/ADVERTISING INTERESTS - Member profiles and message board posts should be created by individuals seeking to participate and benefit from FAAST, rather than to seek the participation or market of FAAST's existing membership. As such, membership profiles and message board posts that are deemed to be primarily commercial in nature or intended to advertise or proselytize on behalf of any other group or organization may be declined or removed at the discretion of FAAST's organizers.

Post Under the Proper Categories.
The folders and their descriptions are pretty self explanatory. The organizers will relocate threads to the appropriate category if necessary. Here are the folder names and descriptions:

Find the "rules" and guidelines here, admin announcements, and links to some of our favorite organizations. Post and find answers to general and technical questions about FAAST.

Religion & Irreligion
Meet others who question religion. Post news articles and discussions related to religion and irreligion. Threads should be specifically religion- or irreligion-related. Please do not hijack threads!

Details and discussion of official events. Also feel free to post non-official event invitations. On a similar note: most FAAST events are meant to be for the private members of this meetup group. However, if you would like to bring a guest simply indicate so in your RSVP. Guests are, of course, expected to abide by our TOS also.

Everything Else
Come here for off-topic subjects – politics, humor, current events, etc.

Avoid Hijacking a Thread.
Be respectful of others’ discussions. While conversations naturally take various turns in real life and online, please be considerate, stay on topic and do not attempt to change a thread to a different topic. If thread “hijacking” occurs, the organizers may delete or relocate inappropriate posts.

Take Personal Issues Off the Forums.
If you have a private beef with someone, discuss it privately – not on the message boards. If you need organizer involvement, email us.

Also, remember this is a "public" forum and your posts should be of general interest -- even if conflict is not involved, please utilize your own email, text messaging, cells, etc. rather than the message board for personal conversations and keep your personal "shout outs" within the meetup "Greetings" tool.

Keep in mind that although this is a private group by meetup's definition, anyone can join, and anyone can join anonymously. This is the Internet. Don't post anything here that you really don't want everyone else to read.

Ignore Spamming.
Organizers will delete posts that are too promotional. Please don't post a link to your website selling something! Not only will your post be deleted, your membership may be revoked as well. Solicitation is also a violation of the general meetup terms & conditions you have agreed to.

Avoid Power Posting.
There's no prize here for the member that posts the most or the longest. We encourage everyone to be active participants, but if you don't have something meaningful to say, don't post just for the sake of seeing your name in a thread. When quoting other people’s posts, quote just the relevant portion. When quoting material from other sources, please provide proper attribution and/or a link to the source material. Do not represent others’ words as your own. Keep in mind that if your posts are very wordy, people may not want to read them. Less is more.

Don't Flame the Staff.
If you don't like how FAAST does things, email the organizers. We do our best to keep things running smoothly and to make this an upbeat, friendly and interesting environment. We have a diverse group of organizers and we seldom all agree unanimously on any given issue, so we are used to dealing with conflicting opinions. All complaints and suggestions will be taken under consideration by the organizers. Responses may seem slow -- it sometimes takes a long time for such a large organizational team to discuss issues and come to a decision -- but we do pay attention to member input!

Don't be a No-Show
If you RSVP "yes" for a FAAST event and then change your mind about attending, please change your RSVP to a "no." This simple courtesy is much appreciated by your organizers. Members who RSVP "yes" and fail to attend the event or to change their RSVP may be flagged as "no-shows" by the organizer. Any FAAST organizer can, at his or her discretion, elect to bar a member with a record of multiple no-shows from attending any or all of that organizer's FAAST events. Please be considerate and don't be a no-show.

Enforcement of the "Rules"
The organizers really expect our job of "moderating" the message boards to be limited. The following are our guidelines for moving and/or removing posts or threads:

1) A majority of the organizers can, at their discretion, move or remove a message post that they feel falls outside the guidelines for either the message board as a whole or for the content topics of an individual folder.
2) A standard message will be sent to the author letting her or him know of the change and reminding them of the policy.
3) The organizers will keep a copy of the offending post should the decision be called into question later.
4) The organizers will notify all other organizers that the message board has been altered and why.
5) Repeat offenders will be subject to removal from the group if agreed upon by a majority of the organizers.

Major Decisions
Major decisions will be made by the organizers democratically as a group, in consultation with the membership as appropriate. Such decisions may include matters such as changing the name and purpose of the group, electing new organizers, changing the private status of the group, forming alliances with other organizations, and removing group members for violations of the terms of service. In some instances, polls will be posted to assess the opinions of the membership.

As FAAST is intended to be a democratic group, action will only be taken to remove message board posts of a group member after that member has been privately contacted and asked to edit or remove the offending post(s), and reasons given. Exceptions to this would be if a post is physically threatening in nature or obvious spamming/troll behavior.
