What we're about

FAHA (Fredericksburg Area Homeschoolers’ Association) began as more than a homeschool support group. It started as an intentional community, secular, close-knit, and like-minded. In 2003, the founders were immersed in attachment parenting, respectful parenting, and natural living. That is still strong in many of us, and has continued to inform our lives as our children grow. New members have been attracted to some or all of these values and interests.

Now FAHA has grown too large for everyone to know everyone else like in the early days, but as our name says, we are an association of interest-led groups. This website is a place for homeschooling families to connect with other homeschooling families in the vicinity of Fredericksburg for clubs, events, classes, projects, activities, field trips, park days and whatever else interests you and your children.

Members live around Fredericksburg, Virginia and share the values of parenting respectfully and living naturally. We are eclectic homeschoolers and unschoolers, both moms and dads with children ranging from babies to teens. If all of this describes you too, then we’d like to meet you!

Note to families with teens: FAHA does have more preschool to elementary aged children because younger families seem to seek out homeschool groups more often, but we do have some teens who wish there were more! If you are the parent of a teen, please join us! Let's create more opportunities for our teens to find friends with similar interests. Also, many activities are fun for all ages all the way up to adult!

NOTE: Our group includes children with food allergies so please always ask parents before offering food to children.

To be approved for membership please complete the profile completely, the more details the better, including a photograph of yourself, so we can start right away to get to know you. Applications containing photos of objects instead of people will not be approved.

Dues are not currently required. When we do charge dues, they pay for our use of Meetup and for some of the events and activities we do.

In the interest of being a connected community, we request that you attend an event within your first few weeks. Remember, you get out of FAHA what you put in.
