When did you realize you were atheist?

When I was 12. We were in the way to church and I told my mother that I didn't want to go because I was an atheist and thought that religion was a pack of lies. I was promptly grounded.

Are you open with you atheism and how did your family and friends respond when you told them?

Yes. I don't just come out and say it, but I don't hide it either. My husband outed me to my mother a couple years ago. She cried and said she felt as if she failed as a parent. I told her that of course she didn't, she in fact did quiet the opposite raising an independent, strong, and freethinking person.

What do you hope to find in a group of freethinkers?

A sense of community

Do you think atheists groups can alter public opinions of non-theism?

Hi! I just moved to the area and am so thrilled to find this group!
