This group was set up in May 2018 with the aim of being a relaxed, friendly & fun group for women to connect, generally have a bit of a giggle but most importantly form new friendships. For many of our long-standing members this group has proved life-changing and provided a new lease for life.
Take a look at our past events for an idea of the sorts of things we do: walks, meals/drinks out, afternoon tea, Panto, Christmas events, quiz nights, theatre, Sunday roast, outdoor cinema, concerts, Tribute nights; the list goes on and all ideas are always welcome.
Who Fab Females is for…
We’re from all walks of life and membership is open to ladies age 40+ ‘years young’ that live or work close to LE10 3JA.
We’re not about having as many members as possible. Our focus is on encouraging and energising fellow members and generally ‘being there’, as generally ‘girls’ do for new found friends.
And in the wake of COVID-19 (see ‘3 years on’ below) our policy now is to have a maximum membership of 50 people. Therefore, if you see we already have 50 members, please revisit our page at a later date when it’s below 50 to request to join our group.
How to join
We ask please that you satisfy the following criteria before a request to join is approved:
• Answer the profile questions – this includes a commitment to pay £1 towards the running of the group.
· Upload a head & shoulders picture of yourself – this is so members recognise one other at events and can welcome new members.
• Either live or work a maximum of around a 30-minute drive from the intersection between the A5 and M69 junction 1; post code LE10 3JA. The map below gives an idea of that range.
As for everyone, COVID-19 is/was tough in 2000 and early 2021 and our group nearly closed. One reason being that Meetup charge a fee to use their social platform/site, which was still payable throughout the lock-down!
The organisers agreed that the way forward was to keep the group to a maximum of 50 members so we can stay true to our ethos of building lasting friendships as well as subscriptions payments to MeetUp being significantly less.
3 years of keeping track of active/inactive members, collecting subscriptions, etc., has been time consuming so this maximum number should greatly reduce that.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The organisers give their time freely in the interests of the success and existence of this group with no financial gain, so please, always be kind, courteous and respectful to them and all our members. ANY member, or guest of a member that’s reported as disregarding the above shall be removed immediately. We are here to build people up not tear them down.
As per ‘How to join’ above you'll be asked to pay a £1 subscription within approximately 4 weeks of you joining.
For members’ information and for transparency, the subscription payment goes towards:
• Compensating organisers on the ODD occasion they’re left out of pocket if there are no-shows to an event/ a member fails to pay. (Within reason if/when this happens, the member will be removed from the group if they fail to cover the out-of-pocket cost as a result of non-attendance).
• For milestone birthdays for long-standing members, we may sometimes pay for a cake/flowers/ card.
• Small gestures of thanks to the regular organisers of events as a sign of appreciation.
• Booking fees at some events.
• Other small sundry items.
Where there’s a cost/deposit for an event please make payment as advised by the organiser in the event information section before the deadline specified OR within 72 hours of making your RSVP.
For payments NOT made within these timescales your RSVP will be cancelled by the host and where applicable your place offered to a member on the ‘waiting list’. This is to assist with the smooth running of events and the group.
RSVP’s to events
Please only RSVP ‘yes’ if you’re sure you’re able to make it. We appreciate other commitments and unforeseen events crop up out of the blue, but if a member is frequently a ‘no show’ or changes their RSVP very last minute, then as organisers we reserve the right to cancel that person’s membership & remove them at our discretion.
*COVID-19* with get-together numbers being limited until at least mid-June 2021 by government/law, the organisers reserve the right to remove a ‘yes’ RSVP to an event if it’s deemed the member’s either attended or RSVP’d to a number of events that may mean other members haven’t had the chance to respond. The group isn’t necessarily a “first RSVP’d first ‘served’”; this is purely in the interests of fairness to ALL members.
Members can bring guests to an event if the organiser allows this functionality. However, until such time as we reach the end of the government's 'road map' out of COVID we'll be focusing on all events being for members only.
When socialising is more the norm again, a member’s plus 1 can attend 2 events without charge but after that they’ll be asked to either become a paid member themselves (via their group member) or to pay £1.00 per event thereafter to the organiser of the event they’re attending.
The organiser of an event as a general rule will ask guests if they have any particular dietary requirements for meals out. However, to be 100% certain your needs are catered for we advise you to personally contact and advise the venue of your name, the Meetup group’s name that you’re attending with – Fabulous Females 40’s+ - and your requirements so that your needs aren’t accidentally overlooked.
This ‘About Us’ is long, for which I apologise. However, I’d rather prospective members are aware of all the above matters up front so this section serves I suppose as a sort of Q&A.
There is a ‘Discussion’ tab & ‘Message Board’ facility within the Meetup app/platform, but from past experience members aren’t aware of this & don’t necessarily receive email notifications so they’re rarely viewed or read.
If you’ve read this far, thank you & we look forward to meeting you. Here’s to lots of fun, laughter & fab events going forward and to the continuing success of this group!
