What we're about

Fans of the "Intellectual Dark Web" (said with tongue firmly in cheek). For all those who never miss the Rubin Report, reload our podcasts app hoping for the next Jordan B Peterson instalment, or are loving Ben Shapiro's new Sunday Specials as it gives us something to look forward to listening to at work on Monday.

Fans of deep discussions and critical conversations gather here.

Also... something to keep in mind

This is a meetup for dialectics, a certain level of adultness is assumed. It is unmoderated and uncensored. This is a free speech zone (as opposed to a safe space).

However, if you can't agree to disagree, give the most charitable interpretation of someone's view, put arguments rather than character attacks, respond to substance not tone, then this group may not be for you.

Whatever you post on the comments section of a meetup should be done so with the view of discussing it in person.

Climate Change and Environmentalism

This is a thorny topic, we may end up really in the weeds. In order that we have a fruitful discussion I have posted more resources than usual, I have divided them into 4 broad categories (rightwing viewpoint/leftwing viewpoint / rightwing solutions /leftwing solutions) and strongly encourage that if you have limited time, choose from the resources that conflict with your world-view. Ben Shapiro - "Right Side of History"

State Library of New South Wales

First in an extended "Western Civilisation Series". In his most recent book, Ben Shapiro asks the questions "Why are things so good?" and "Why are we blowing it?" He argues that humans need four things for fulfilment: - Individual purpose - Communal purpose - Individual capacity; and; - Communal capacity He argues that the combination of Jeruselum and Athens. Greek reason and Judeo-Christian spirituality provided the conditions for western civilisation and individuals to flourish. We will discuss the book, and in particular: - Is his formulation of fulfilment is complete? - Do we need the influence of Jerusalem and Athens to continue to flourish? - Is it only religion that is being degraded or is it reason as well? - Are we really blowing it? Free Will

The Bear Bar

Do we have free will? If so, to what extent? If not, what are the consequences of this knowledge legally and morally? Free Will is a thorny and voluminous topic, so I have included basic resources and IDW content to try and get the broadest possible spectrum of ideas, this is definitely a non-exhaustive list. Chaos....

The Bear Bar

No topic... we can talk about the latest Joe Rogan guest or Rubin report, what we have read or listened to, or whether whatever happened in current events is good or bad, whether things are looking good or getting worse. Sometimes it is nice to be spontaneous and embrace a little bit of chaos.
