What we're about

This is a group for professional women who love to travel and who are looking for travel companions with similar interests. We will be meeting for brunch, lunch, dinner or cocktails to get to know each other, discuss our travel interests, and exchange information, with the goal of developing a circle of friends to travel with.

This group will be most suitable for women who are well-established in their careers and professions, or are retired, and who have the time and means to travel. Members should be currently single but no one will be asked to leave if they marry! Members should be interested in exploring the world, and should also be interested in art, antiques, history, culture, politics, civics and, of course, good food. There will be some beach/relaxing trips, including cruises, but most will be aimed at exploring and experiencing other cultures.

We all like a good bargain, so if a member spots an exceptional value and shares it, that can become a trip, but the focus of the group is not cheap travel. We are looking for quality trips at a good price. Trips will be planned with value in mind, but the group is not be considered "budget travel" group. Since we are all volunteers, once a trip has been planned and completed it would be very rare for it to be repeated. So if you are interested, sign up early.

Members are encouraged to suggest and host Meetups, such as a lunch in a restaurant near your home or office. Members are also strongly encouraged to suggest trips, with some detail. I am always happy to discuss potential trips, but you must be willing to take the lead in organizing it.

Because this group is dedicated to forming personal relationships and friendships, a reasonably recent photograph of you (not your new puppy or your favorite shoes) is required within 30 days of becoming a member. You must also live or work in DE, DC, MD or VA.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. We look forward to meeting you!

◆◆ ONLY YES RSVP'S NEEDED -- DO NOT REPLY IF YOU AREN'T ATTENDING. ◆◆◆ 💖💖THE COST IS $75 (NON-REFUNDABLE - UNLESS EVENT IS CANCELED) PER PERSON AND IS DUE BY JANUARY 30, 2019 💖💖 Florists will showcase "Flower Power" in their landscapes and arrangements at the 2019 Philadelphia Flower Show. The theme will celebrate the contribution of flowers to our lives and will play host to the Florists' Transworld Delivery World Cup, the world’s most prestigious floral design competition," according to PHS. Part of it will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, so expect peace signs, hippie accoutrements, and I’d imagine at least one VW bus with flowers painted on it. But the bigger tie-in is that the main entrance will feature the official competition for the 2019 FTD World Cup of Flowers. This is the global competition for floral designers. It’s where the world’s best designers try to outdo each other to win what’s essentially the gold medal in a flower-arranging Olympics. VAN PICKUP LOCATIONS 1. Signature City Natchez: Southern History and Culture on the Mississippi

The trip begins at the Natchez Grand Hotel, a hotel in the heart of historic downtown Natchez, just steps from dining, shopping, entertainment, historic attractions, a public park with walking trail overlooking the river, and breathtaking sunsets over the Mighty Mississippi. According to TripAdvisor, Natchez has more antebellum mansions than any other place in the US, and according to one source, prior to the Civil War, it was the home to more millionaires than New York City. The trip will include field trips to historic homes, including that of a freed slave, mansions, museums, churches and historic sights. There will be a private luncheon and private dinner in two 19th century mansions as well as a "Chopin and Champagne" concert one evening. We will learn about the heritage of freed slaves and the social realities that have changed from romantic notions of the old South to the more (sort of) egalitarian New South. Natchez is a city of beautiful homes, gardens, churches and architecture reflecting French, English and Spanish cultures, and is located at the point where the Mississippi River dramatically changes course. We should also get a good taste of both southern hospitality and southern cooking. This is a RoadScholar "Signature City" trip. The itinerary is fascinating. Please go to roadscholar.org and read the details. This is a small group departure of 24 guests, and it will not just be our group. There are a number of spots available (they won't give an exact number), but only one single spot. If you don't want to share a room, you should book this immediately. Even if you are willing to share, you should not wait too long. Your booking should be done directly with RoadScholar. I am limiting the group to six, only because I don't know how many slots are still available and I don't want anyone getting mad at me. But if there is a spot, Road Scholar will let you book it. The cost is $1099 double, $1459 single. The cost includes 13 meals. RoadScholar offers roommate matching service, or you may be able to find someone in our group you would like to share a room with. We are each responsible for our own transportation to and from the trip. I will be flying but haven't looked at the schedule yet. Please contact me directly at [masked] with questions. I find the "messaging" in the Meetup system to be very cumbersome, and I often don't even know that I have a message waiting.
