Join Feet First Executive Director, Lisa Quinn on a 3.5 mile urban meets nature walk. Starting from the Mt. Baker Link light rail station participants will learn about the Artspace that will transform the station to support transit oriented development, which includes live/work facilities. From this location, we'll head up the Cheasty Trail along a dirt path and learn more about the Olmsted Plan and Parks Levy to support the Cheasty Greenbelt and the recent changes to allow mt. bikes to use this area. http://www.seattle.gov/parks/projects/cheasty/gs_bike_trail.htm. You will get the opportunity to explore opportunities and challenges of this pilot project including recreational use, access to neighborhoods and leveraging city partnerships. Continuing along the trail we will learn more about the changes at Jefferson Park including the internationally recognized Beacon Hill Food Forest. More here: http://www.beaconfoodforest.org
We will connect with and learn about the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Greenway, stop by the library and take a tour of the Beacon Hill Link light rail station viewing the amazing public artwork.
The walk will end at El Centro de La Raza. Experience the first designated festival street in Seattle and hear about the history of this neighborhood landmark. Take part in the 9th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration from 3pm-8pm. The event is free and includes children's activities, live music, crafts, and traditional food for purchase. Note: Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome to join the walk. A portion of this walk along the Cheasty Trail might be difficult for parents pushing strollers and people who use wheelchairs.
