What we’re about

YOU are an LA woman over 40! And WE are adventurous, imaginative, enthusiastic women over 40 who are insatiably curious about the people and places that make up our magical mosaic called Los Angeles. We want to go where we haven’t gone and do what we haven’t done. And we’re as diverse as this city we love! You are welcome as you are, and no one is judged.

Together, we’ll deep-dive into arts, music, dance, comedy, history, architecture, variety arts, craft fairs, antique districts, wineries, local festivals, and the occasional day trip Adventure. Of course, we’ll find fun and fabulous places to eat and drink along our way. We want our activities to be as varied as our membership.

We're also extremely proud of our three signature event series:

  1. Cocktails in Unique Places (CUP)— our signature event, 2) A historical based event, and 3) our casual Neighborhood Nights where we can relax, connect, and build great friendships.

Your ideas are always welcome! YOU can be an event organizer! We're always happy to help you make your event sparkle!
Some events will be free. But for others, we may ask for a small fee to cover Meetup expenses. (And of course, if you like our group vibe, you’re always welcome to make a donation on your own!) Some events may have limits on the number of people the venue will allow. But we’ll always try to have a waitlist.

Just a few rules to remember:
For the safety of all our members, we require a clear profile photo OF YOU ALONE, OF YOUR FACE (facing the camera!) NO HATS OR SUNGLASSES! -- SORRY, BUT NO EXCEPTIONS!

If you RSVP and then don’t cancel more than 24-hours before at 3 events, we’ll have to show you out of the group for 3-months. But that won’t happen because you’ll update your RSVPs and cancel with at least 24-hours notice! Right?

If you fail to make your payment on designated fee events within 24-hours or as stated we will remove you from the event. Three failures to pay and we will remove you from the group for 6-months.

If you RSVP and we never see you that’s a NO SHOW even if you were there and did your own thing. 2 no-shows and we will remove you from the group for one year.

No-shows and Last-minute cancellations put our ability to book terrific venues at risk! Your event organizers and fellow members will appreciate your courtesy especially when there's a wait list and they hope to join!

Be kind and welcoming to everyone you meet here. We ask that you never contact group members you haven’t met in person. Don’t send group emails for any reason. Be respectful in the comments.

CHANGING OR REMOVING A PROFILE PHOTO:
You can change your ACCOUNT profile photo OR your GROUP profile photos.
Your ACCOUNT profile photo will be used by DEFAULT for your GROUP profiles. After a GROUP profile photo is set, changing your ACCOUNT profile photo will not update your GROUP profile. You can update each of your GROUP profile photos individually.

Profile photo requirements: The recommended ratio is 1:1. For example, a square 200 pixels high by 200 pixels wide photo. Photos must be in JPEG or PNG format and under 10MB.

TO CHANGE YOUR ACCOUNT PROFILE PHOTO: 
Desktop web
1. Click on your circular profile button.
2. Select Profile from the drop-down menu.
3. Click Change your photo.
4. Upload a new photo or pick from your existing profile photos.
5. Select Done to confirm.

Android & iOS Apps
1. From the Home tab, tap your circular Profile button.
2. Tap edit profile or the Pencil.
3. Select Change or the Camera beneath your current profile picture.
4. Select one of the following options:
*Take a photo
*Select photo from your device
*Delete photo
5. Tap the checkmark or Save to confirm.

TO CHANGE YOUR GROUP PROFILE PHOTO:
Desktop web
1. Navigate to the group homepage.
2. Select Manage group or You’re a member.
3. Select Your member profile.
4. Select change your photo.
5. Upload a new photo or pick from your existing profile photos.
6. Select Done to confirm.

NOTIFICATIONS:
For the ability to communicate with you your EMAIL UPDATES and NOTIFICATIONS must be turned on in SETTINGS both on your computer and phone app. Without notifications you will miss out on newly posted events, but more importantly you will miss out on schedule changes. Important updates can include, time and meetup location changes, a rescheduled event date, and in some remote cases an event cancellation.

For instructions on how to change your settings, go to the Friendship & Fabulous Places HOME page. Click on MORE (under the portal photo), then click on MESSAGE BOARD. Select "Email and notification settings." Make certain you've checked all the boxes and allow us to email and notify you.

Please note: the Message Board is available on the Web Application, but not on the Mobile App.

To edit settings on the Mobile App, go to your profile icon (bottom right corner), then go to the 3 dots icon (upper right corner). Select "Push notifications", then select "Change email updates." Make certain all options are GREEN.

    We start the new year with an extraordinary event and r-a-r-e opportunity. Our monthly series, “The Most Beautiful Restaurants in L.A.” takes us to the magnificent Magic Castle! 🏰 🎩🕊️

    🛑PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION V-E-R-Y CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU RSVP. YOUR RSVP DOES NOT GUARANTEE ATTENDANCE.
    This is the only event I host where you must be in “good membership standing” to join.

    Why are there strict requirements to join?
    Magic Castle passes have been provided for the enjoyment of members of my group by a magician. He entrusts my good judgement in the selection of guests who will adhere to the Magic Castle’s strict rules. We are extremely fortunate to be his guests.

    MAGIC CASTLE REGULATIONS
    The Magic Castle has very strict guidelines for admittance. I will be charged $85 per guest on my credit card (on file) for any cancelation under 48-hrs. See photo of their cancellation policy

    You are NOT eligible to join this event if:
    ▪️You have been a no-show to any of my events.
    ▪️You have a record of canceling excessively or have cancelled two or more times under 24-hours.
    ▪️You have been removed for failure to pay two or more times to any previous event. Note: you will be considered as an alternate after the event is full should someone cancel.

    Meetup members have priority. No added female guests unless we run out of eligible waitlisted members 5-days prior.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    ▪️Valid Photo ID is REQUIRED. Do NOT forget it!
    ▪️Strict dress code enforced (see below).
    ▪️Dinner entrée is REQUIRED with passes.

    🔺NOTIFICATIONS-ON IS REQUIRED

    Additionally:
    🔹YOU MUST ARRIVE ON TIME
    We are taking a group photo before entering. To expedite our entry in order to attempt to arrange a tour or see our first show at 5:45 PM I will be checking-in the entire group with our passes including parking. Please bring cash to cover your parking. I will be collecting your share of parking and paying for everyone at once. It’s far too time constraining otherwise with a large group of 12.
    🔹You must be willing to stand for long periods of time before show times as well as move up and down several flights of steep stairs throughout the castle without any mobility constraints.
    🔹Please do NOT RSVP unless you plan on seeing at least one show. Joining only for dinner isn’t fair to those waitlisted who would love to be included and participate for both parts.

    🔺THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS TO JOIN THIS EVENT:
    Dinner Jan 24th or Brunch on Feb 14th.

    • Dinner: (without drinks) including entertainment cover and admin fee will run about $140+. Add parking fee. Full entertainment.
    • Brunch buffet: $134.00 (without drinks) including entertainment cover and admin fee. Add parking fee. Reduced shows. For Brunch post go to: “Ladies Who Adore Vintage” Meetup group. Galentine’s Brunch on Feb 14th.

    🔺GETTING ADDED TO THE EVENT
    DO NOT send payment at this time. JOIN THE WAITLIST. If you are contacted I will request your deposit within 24-hrs. Wait to be contacted! Your payment must be made within 24-hrs or you will be ineligible to join. Once payment is received you will be moved-up and confirmed.

    🔺In order to give others a chance to attend you will NOT be permitted to attend both events. You can however waitlist on both dinner and brunch posts to increase your opportunity to join one. Once moved-up to one event you CAN’T swap to the other. There are no exceptions. This event requires a lot of time and effort to coordinate.

    PRE-PAID FEES: $95 PayPal/Venmo/Zelle
    ($85 cancellation fee collected upfront to avoid charges to my credit card on file + $10 Admin fee).

    NOTE: $85 is applied towards the $45 weekend entertainment cover and $40 towards your dinner. You will be responsible for your dinner & drinks tab exceeding $40 (add 22% required gratuity). Parking is separate. Please only RSVP if you can commit.

    🔺CASH REQUIRED FOR YOUR REMAINING BALANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR THIS EVENT. WE HAVE TO SETTLE THE BILL ASAP TO MAKE THE MAIN SHOW ON TIME.

    If you need to cancel please notify me immediately. I will handle the monetary transfer for you once there is a waitlist started. NOT PRIOR. The event must fill up first.

    After dinner we will divide into two smaller groups of six as we navigate throughout three floors of the castle to view different shows. It’s going to get VERY crowded.

    There is nowhere else in the world that resembles a castle for the performing arts!! If you have never been to the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood you are in for an incredible memorable experience. The Magic Castle should be on everyone’s bucket list even if you aren’t into Magic. The mansion is full of surprises, the dining is superb, and the shows are no less than remarkable.

    MEET OUTSIDE IN LINE NO LATER THAN 5:00 PM SHARP!!
    We will take a group photo by the Magic Castle backdrop. Once past the entrance no photos are permitted.

    NOTE: Our dinner seating is at 6:30 PM.
    We will enter as a group so I can get us checked-in promptly with our guest passes and attempt to arrange for a Castle tour. If we are not able to join a tour we can order drinks and begin the evening’s shows.

    $30 VALET PARKING ONLY- BRING CASH
    TO EXPEDITE OUR ENTRANCE I WILL BE COLLECTING YOUR PARKING FEE WHILE WE ARE IN LINE. Otherwise, it will take far too long with our group size of 12. Weekends are PACKED!!

    CARPOOL - SAVE ON PARKING
    I encourage meeting at a designated spot near the Magic Castle and carpooling the final distance. I will update you where I park very closeby to carpool. If 4 carpool parking is reduced to only $8 - $9 each with attendant tip. I’ve been there many times and this is what we always do to save on the steep parking.

    HOLLYWOOD TRAFFIC
    Be certain to allow extra time to arrive. There might be an engagement going on at the nearby Hollywood Bowl or Dolby Theatre.

    🔺PLEASE BE CERTAIN TO ADHERE TO THE STRICT DRESS CODE & NO PHOTOGRAPHY RESTRICTIONS INSIDE.
    The Magic Castle Management reserves the right to judge Members’ dress code decisions on a case-by-case basis.

    WHAT TO WEAR
    Please dress up!! This is your night to shine!!

    Classy cocktail dresses, evening gowns, or very dressy formal pants suits (with a matching blazer). Dress shoes even if you are wearing dressy cocktail style pants.

    HISTORY OF THE MAGIC CASTLE
    A wealthy banker and real estate investor, Rollin B. Lane constructed the Gothic Renaissance chateau in 1909 as a residence for himself and his wife, among what was then a prosperous orange grove. When the building fell into disrepair during its mid-century tenure, brothers and Magic Castle Founders Milt and Bill Larsen convinced then-owner, Thomas O. Glover (former landlord of the beloved Yamashiro restaurant up the road), to transfigure the property into a private club for magicians, which was a lifelong dream of their father’s.
