What we're about

YOU are an LA woman over 40! And WE are adventurous, imaginative, enthusiastic women over 40 who are insatiably curious about the people and places that make up our magical mosaic called Los Angeles. We want to go where we haven’t gone and do what we haven’t done. And we’re as diverse as this city we love! You are welcome as you are, and no one is judged.

Together, we’ll deep-dive into arts, music, dance, comedy, history, architecture, variety arts, craft fairs, antique districts, flea markets, local festivals, and all manner of culture and counterculture. Of course, we’ll find fun and fabulous places to eat and drink along our way. We want our activities to be as varied as our membership.

We're also extremely proud of our three signature event series:

1) Cocktails in Unique Places (CUP) -- our signature event, 2) A historical based event, and 3) our casual Neighborhood Nights where we can relax, connect, and build great friendships.

And your ideas are always welcome! YOU can be an event organizer! We're always happy to help you make your event sparkle!

Some events will be free. But for others, we may ask for a small fee to cover Meetup expenses. (And of course, if you like our group vibe, you’re always welcome to make a donation on your own!) Some events may have limits on the number of people the venue will allow. But we’ll always try to have a waitlist.

Just a few rules to remember:

For the safety of all our members, we require a clear profile photo OF YOU ALONE, OF YOUR FACE (facing the camera!) NO HATS OR SUNGLASSES! -- SORRY, BUT NO EXCEPTIONS!

If you RSVP and then don’t cancel more than 24 hours before at 4 events, we’ll have to show you out of the group for four months. But that won’t happen because you’ll update your RSVPs and cancel with at least 24 hours notice! Right?

And if you RSVP and we never see you that’s a NO SHOW even if you were there and did your own thing. 3 no-shows and we will remove you from the group for six-months.

No-shows and Last-minute cancellations put our ability to book terrific venues at risk! Your event organizers and sister members will appreciate your courtesy especially when there's a wait list.

Be kind and welcoming to everyone you meet here. We ask that you never contact group members you haven’t met in person. Don’t send group emails for any reason. Be respectful in the comments.

You can change your ACCOUNT profile photo OR your GROUP profile photos.

Your ACCOUNT profile photo will be used by DEFAULT for your GROUP profiles. After a GROUP profile photo is set, changing your ACCOUNT profile photo will not update your GROUP profile. You can update each of your GROUP profile photos individually.

Profile photo requirements: The recommended ratio is 1:1. For example, a square 200 pixels high by 200 pixels wide photo. Photos must be in JPEG or PNG format and under 10MB.

4. Upload a new photo or pick from your existing profile photos.

5. Select Done to confirm.

1. From the Home tab, tap your circular Profile button.

3. Select Change or the Camera beneath your current profile picture.

4. Select one of the following options:

5. Tap the checkmark or Save to confirm.

1. Navigate to the group homepage.

2. Select Manage group or You’re a member.

3. Select Your member profile.

4. Select change your photo.

For the ability to communicate with you your EMAIL UPDATES and NOTIFICATIONS must be turned on in SETTINGS both on your computer and phone app. Without notifications you will miss out on newly posted events, but more importantly you will miss out on schedule changes. Important updates can include, time and meetup location changes, a rescheduled event date, and in some remote cases an event cancellation.

For instructions on how to change your settings, go to the Females 40+ For Friendship & Fabulous Places HOME page. Click on MORE (under the portal photo), then click on MESSAGE BOARD. Select "Email and notification settings." Make certain you've checked all the boxes and allow us to email and notify you. Please note the Message Board is available on the Web Application, but not on the Mobile App.

To edit settings on the Mobile App, go to your profile icon (bottom right corner), then go to the 3 dots icon (upper right corner). Select "Push notifications", then select "Change email updates." Make certain all options are GREEN.

After searching & scouting numerous patios we discovered the avant-garde Lady Byrd Cafe. This hidden gem in Echo Park, in a garden-style setting, is charming & cozy and the perfect fit for our Echo Park day. Newly opened Lady Byrd Cafe has taken physical distancing during COVID to the extra mile, going so far as to transform its own parking lot with cozy, individual greenhouse distance dining pods. Aside from their four parking lot greenhouses there’s still plenty of traditional seating in their second outdoor patio. The owner says she was inspired by European al fresco dining and an Amsterdam restaurant that installed outdoor dining greenhouses during the pandemic. I am doing my very best to organize outdoor events that are worthy of this Meetup group- "fabulous places" where social distancing is adhered to. TAM O"SHANTER- est 1922 Through a long, dynamic history, what began as a small, whimsically designed roadside diner on a dusty dirt road grew into a popular iconic landmark for generations. Its success would ultimately lead to the creation of multiple restaurants and an internationally known spice company- Lawry's Seasoning. Tam O’ Shanter is Los Angeles’ oldest family owned and operated restaurant in its original location. With a prospering partnership firmly established between two families related by marriage, brothers-in-law Lawrence L. Frank and Walter Van de Kamp began their own “private venture” into the restaurant business in 1922, when they built Montgomery’s Country Inn. Three years later, they adopted a Scottish theme, changing the name to the Tam O’Shanter Inn, a reference to a famous Robbie Burns poem. Close to Hollywood’s movie studios the Tam was an ideal lunch spot for the film stars of the day. Early on, silent movie greats like Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Rudolph Valentino, Fatty Arbuckle as well as other film legends like John Wayne (graduated from nearby Glendale High School) were all frequent guests. And of course Walt Disney himself. The Disney studios were closeby. Fond of its food and the Tam O’Shanter’s Storybook Style architecture, created by famed movie set designer Harry Oliver, Walt Disney and his employees dined there frequently. Disney’s favorite spot from which he could see the entire room soon became known as the Disney Table- adjacent to the fireplace. Many of Disney's cartoons & sketches created while he dined there can be found throughout the restaurant's walls. The 1930s found the nation in the throes of the Great Depression. The Tam O’Shanter responded by building a patio for outdoor dining and, shortly thereafter, introduced one of the country’s first drive-ins, featuring “Car Service de luxe” made possible with special wooden trays that enabled guests to dine in their cars. Many are unaware Tam O'Shanter originally had a patio. They eventually did away with it. Now after 70 years a new patio was added in 2018. The perfect spot for our outdoor CUP!! If it remains closed the event will be replaced with another CUP worthy venue. We are following State guidelines and keeping group sizes to a max of 10 (indoor events) and up to 16 on SELECT open-air venues. CUP's are carefully selected for their unique location and/or atmosphere. Many are located inside historical properties. Some are glamorous while others are truly unique "hole in the wall" venues. Either way, we are certain you will love these "fabulous places!" Checker Hall tucked inside the old Masonic Hall is one of LA's hidden gems. CHECKER HALL The Scene: Located on the second floor of a thoughtfully restored Masonic Hall in the heart of L.A.'s Highland Park. The restaurant exudes vintage-era warmth and charm, with a dining room designed by L.A.-based Design, Bitches, and a menu and hospitality approach intended to celebrate and continue the building's nearly century-long history as a community gathering place. This is a hidden treasure easy to pass because of the unassuming exterior as you walk down the sidewalk on Avenue 56 close to Figueroa Ave. As you notice the restaurant's plain door set against a windowless solid wall, peak inside. Mostly you see an elevator directly across from the entrance and wide stairway to the right. Ah, but once you step onto the second floor, everything begins to change. It's as though you discovered a Prohibition speakeasy hideaway. Design: The dining room features a modern central bar and four distinct seating types: banquette cocktail seating, intimate booths, bar stools and standard dining seating. Standout Venue Features: The bar program includes beer, wine and creative "fast craft" cocktails that playfully pay homage to the establishment's Masonic temple past, such as the Chapter Sweetheart, Hall Grog and Johnny the Giant (a tribute to eight-foot-tall silent film star John Aasen, who was inducted into the Masons in 1924). Chef Hovig Agop's Mediterranean menu offers a range of modern dips, salads, small plates and entrees at affordable price points, making it an ideal destination for both everyday dining and special occasions.
