"Human trafficking is the acquisition of people by improper means such as
force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them.
Human trafficking is a crime against humanity."

~ The United Nations

We wish to draw attention to human trafficking's root causes:
  • a culture that accepts women as objects that can be bought and sold,
  • the ready market for cheap labor and goods,
  • and the cycle of poverty that creates a pool of ready victims.

Working in concert with others and with your help, we believe we can end slavery in our time. By forging alliances with a range of social justice groups, we hope to build a movement that is stronger than its separate parts.

The great Solomon Burke, 1940 - 2010, R.I.P. Few have ever said it better:

None of Us Are Free:

We are a broadly engaged group learning about all aspects of human trafficking. Most groups have a more restricted focus. Many for instance address sex trafficking only, some singularly directed against child trafficking. Others take aim at labor trafficking sometimes targeting a specific arena such as agriculture or domestic work. The interest of other groups may vary according to geography or ethnicity. Some groups are faith based, some have a political agenda, and others are simply humanitarian in outlook. Many groups concentrate on prevention through education and outreach or aim to protect and restore survivors. Others advocate for new laws and work for their effective implementation. Organizations may operate at the local, state, federal or international level.

The view of Fight Slavery Now!, is that all of these approaches have merit and that all are necessary. We think that it is also important for some groups to be an umbrella for all of these issues which are part and parcel of the the same problem viewed through different lenses. With that goal in mind, it is especially important that we reach out to others, both to offer support and to learn. When we attend events hosted by other groups, we strive to make personal contacts with their volunteers, to study their literature, listen to their message, and look for opportunities to collaborate.

Human trafficking is a global criminal enterprise. Former Secretary of State Clinton added 'Partnerships' to the recipe of 'Prevention, Protection, and Prosecution' in confronting this crime. We will continue to pursue partnerships as a matter of policy as well as encouraging our members to reach out on an individual basis. We hope to forge alliances with the many social justice groups tackling issues of labor abuse, violence against women, and all forms of illegal exploitation.

* Vision Statement *
We envision a world where the root causes of human trafficking are adequately addressed. We strive to help create an enlightened society where a market will not be tolerated for the sale and illicit exploitation of human beings. We hope to see investigators adequately tranined and funded, perpetrators vigorously pursued, and survivors offered hope and healing instead of scorn and punishment.

* Mission Statement *
Our mission is to expose and help eradicate modern-day slavery. Human trafficking inflicts untold suffering on all its victims. It deprives them of their most basic and unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We are an all volunteer grass-roots organization, bound together in common purpose: to do all we can to end this crime against humanity.

* Goals *
Raise awareness of all facets of the problem, its magnitude and scope in all its various forms.
Develop greater understanding of the root causes of human trafficking.
Plan effective interventions.
Grow our organization in both membership and outreach capacity.
Forge alliances with other groups fighting for social justice.
Demand responsive political leadership.
Advocate for victims rights and services for survivors.

* Action Programs *
  • Ongoing public education events including film screenings, leafletting, public speaking and mailings.
  • Regular publication of a newsletter for our membership.
  • Continued strategy meetings to assess programs and goals.
  • Maintaining two web sites: the deeply informative FightSlaveryNow.Org, and our dynamic site for our members.
  • Group book reading and discussion as a learning tool.
  • Development of legislative initiatives and implementation.
  • Active partnerships with other groups in furtherance of our goals.
  • "Seal of Freedom" consumer education program.
  • Building Resources for our members in our Files section.

This group is about its members. Please share your thoughts and truly make this "About Us."
