Re: [Film-Connoisseurs-of-Jacksonville] New Meetup: The King's Speech

Hi Karen,

Gosh, I sure wish I could schedule movies farther in advance. "The King's Speech" has had a wider release than the films we usually see, so in this case, I could have probably given more advanced notice. However, I have been sick earlier in the week, and was not sure if I would be up for a film this weekend.

When I started this group, I thought it would be a piece of cake to schedule the films. However, I discovered that the theaters themselves (I called the managers) do not even know what they will be showing until the Wednesday or Thursday before the weekend. Apparently, the corporate offices make those decisions based upon sales that week. On top of that, many of the foreign and independent films only play one week, so if we don't go the week it appears, often you will miss out! Quite often, the Five Points Theater will schedule fairly far out, but even they have changed up their schedule at the last minute.

I've also stayed away from scheduling weeknight movies because we would need to see a 7 p.m. show, and going out afterwards to discuss the movie would have us up a little late on a "school night."

Sorry you won't be able to make it Sunday, I hope you can catch the film another time!

Jill

Personally, I wish you would give more advance notice of movie postings.  Already have plans on Sunday.

With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife , Elizabeth, the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue. After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond. With the support of Logue, his family, his government and Winston Churchill, the King will overcome his stammer and deliver a radio-address that inspires his people and unites them in battle.
