What we're about
We meet in small groups (ideally 3-6) at fine and fine-enough restaurants for breakfast, lunch, tea and coffee, happy hour, and early dinners. Convivial conversations revolve around books, films, and travel. Bonhomie is the order of the day; good food and drink are the lovely etceteras...
Four Essentials to Know Before Requesting Membership:
1) Cordial participation without pecuniary self-interest is expected at all times. And though differences of opinion that spur superb conversations are welcome, intolerance of people or ideas, rudeness, and self-righteousness are antithetical to the spirit of this group.
2) Since ours are small gatherings and empty chairs inspire sadness for both the wait staff and fellow diners, members are required to honor their RSVPs. Thus, save for a genuine last-minute emergency, if members must cancel they must do so in a timely manner at least 48 hours before the start of an event so that people on the waitlist can be notified and reservation can be corrected. This is, after all, a simple courtesy towards fellow diners, the restaurant, and the organizer. No-shows and those who repeatedly cancel within 48 hours of the event will be removed from the group.
3) Please know that all members are each responsible for their own charges. We do ask for separate checks, but sometimes the restaurant will not provide them for one table, particularly for the Happy Hours and Coffees/Teas. Please plan accordingly.
4) For purposes of identification at meetings, on the group's meetup website each member must post their first name, a photo that clearly shows the individual's face, and a brief introduction. Please note: only members may RSVP for an event. For a variety of reasons, +1 are not allowed, unless it is for a special "couples" event.
In closing, please know that the organizer of this group pays for her meals just like the other members do, and she does not get any special advantage for organizing the group or suggesting restaurants. She does the work of organizing the group only because she enjoys breaking bread with pleasant, interesting people.
