What we're about

In writing workshops we use free writing ( https://www.cpsdayoff.com/blank-page-1 ), and discussion to explore different themes. Past workshops have had us describing ourselves as a sculpture, setting our theme for the year, creating new days of the week, and much more.

No writing talent, knowledge or experience - and definitely no grammar - is required.

Using free writing gets your pen moving. It can uncover different perspectives and sometimes surprising insights. It’s a lovely way to celebrate your ‘you’-ness, especially when shared with others. It helps us to see that we’re all in the same boat and gives us inspiration and encouragement to keep writing. It can also surface creative nuggets and be a lot of fun. Yes, we’re allowed to have fun and write.

Writing can be insightful, and we might share things we write (always optional), but please note, this is not a therapy group and isn't suitable for replacement of individual/group therapeutic work.

About Me

I’m a Life Coach and Facilitator, passionate about free writing, whether for self-reflection or to encourage writing itself.

I’ve been free writing for over six years and run regular workshops and coaching groups for writing and for life.

I currently write a blog called Dear Lucy (www.dearlucy.blog). Letters from one friend to another about every day life.

"The lovely Claire led the session, giving us a prompt and then setting us loose on the page for five minutes of free writing. Each of us read out our pieces at the end of each five minute writing slot (always optional), and it was amazing the range of thoughts and images that were produced. I’m not intending to use any of those pieces for another project. They existed in that moment and I’m glad to let them go. They reminded me of the joy of simply writing, going wherever my mind takes me, and not worrying about form, function, content or purpose. I will definitely be going back when I can, and I very much look forward to more random exercises in brain splurging with Claire and the other members."

"I have attended several sessions now and have left each time feeling inspired by what emerged from such simple prompts: so unexpected the different directions taken by each of us and so lightly held that we each felt safe to share or not each time..."

Let's get writing!

De Havilland Arms

If anyone is interested in spending time with other people to encourage their writing (anything - any level), please come along to this writing session. Feel free to dip into whatever time works for you. Just being with other people can really help to get your pen underway. Anyone, any level, writing anything is absolutely welcome. It might be blurb for your website, a novel, a blog, a book for your child, a poem, anything. This is an informal session and I'd encourage pen and paper but obviously if you're working on something on your laptop, bring that along. If people want to briefly chat about what they're working on or want to write, we can do that too. Whatever people want really. I'll have a sign on the table to help you find where we are. Hope to see you there. Claire.

New Year writing workshop - 'Create your theme for the year' - it's back!

Now in it's tenth year, this fun workshop uses guided writing exercises including free writing (no experience required) and discussion to reflect back at the year just gone and look forward to the year ahead, helping us to set our intention for the year ahead. There will be a maximum of 12 attendees. This workshop isn’t about creating resolutions or goals, though these do have their place. It’s more about capturing a feeling or a tone that can guide our decisions and help us feel that, whilst we might not always be behind the wheel, we’re at least in the front of the car. Free writing is a great tool for uncovering new insights and perspectives and a lovely way to celebrate your ‘you-ness’. No writing talent, knowledge or experience – and definitely no grammar – is required. Tea, coffee, water will be included.
