• Photo 101 - Ask Me Anything! — Related to Photography, Computers and Software

The structure for this event has evolved our the years and is now an AMA — Ask Me Anything. We literally mean it too! Come with a list of questions about your camera, computer, software, or just general photography questions and you’ll leave with answers. The Sessions are lead by several of the photo experts at FCCP, including Jeff Donald with over 20 years experience teaching photography including 4 years at Montana State University. Jeff's older brother Lew also instructs and was General Manager for Dodd's Camera in Cleveland for almost 10 years. During that time, Lew helped ten's of thousands of customers learn photography. Please bring your camera if you have specific camera or lens questions. There is internet access, but computers are not required. The meetings are hosted by O'Keefe's Family Restaurant and we are not charged for meetings at this establishment. Please show your appreciation by purchasing a drink (full service bar) or ordering a meal or snack. There is FREE parking in the parking lot. It is also well lightened at night. • Coffee & Photography at O'Keefe's Family Restaurant in Clearwater

    O'Keefe's Family Restaurant

Welcome to our longest running series of events at the Florida Center for Creative Photography. Every Wednesday morning, for over 10 years, we've been providing free instruction on all phases of photography including image editing with programs such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Elements. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee among fellow photographers while you get your questions answered about photography techniques, equipment and computers. The program is run by Jeff and Lew Donald and they have over 80 years of combined photography experience. There literally is no photography related question that they can't answer. Perhaps the most popular segment of the meetings is the 20 to 30 minutes of each week devoted to watching award winning documentaries on select photographers from the 20th century. These include films on Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Paul Strand, W. Eugene Smith, Robert Cappa and many others. Watching these documentaries is not only entertaining, but educational as you see how the masters worked at their art and craft. Another popular segment is our "Show & Tell" segment where members bring a few (10 to 50) recent images on a flash drive. Then we project them on our big screen with our state of the art projector. You're welcome to narrate or just let the images show on the screen. If you want a few images critiqued, no problem, just say so. Jeff will be happy to offer words of encouragement and helpful suggestions to improve the photograph. If you want to show a few photos, just add them in JPEG format to a USB Flash Drive (sometimes referred to as a Thumb Drive) and give them to Jeff at the start of the meeting. This meeting is extremely popular with the regular members and many don't bother to RSVP. We regularly have 40 or more members in attendance. It's OK to come late and leave early if necessary, so don't worry about traffic or being late. Everyone is also invited to lunch following each meeting. We visit several of most popular Clearwater restaurants on a rotating basis after each weekly meeting. This is a great way to meet other members, learn about FCCP and get involved in the photography community. My Recommended Retailers Where you buy your gear matters. • Video of the Day—Educational & Inspirational Videos to Improve your Photography

Unfortunately Meetup does not allow groups to embed or share videos in a modern way. All I can do is provide a link to the video on YouTube. https://youtu.be/dR-orkoTZgE Mangelsen presents at TEDxJacksonHole | The Gift of the Grizzly This fall the conservation community championed Tom when he was randomly drawn from 7,000 applicants as #8 of the 22 hunters awarded a license to kill a grizzly bear in Wyoming. Of course he wasn't going to use his tag to kill one, but instead use it to photograph, potentially saving a bear or two of the estimated 700 in the region. The hunt was called off at the last minute, but as Tom will tell you, the metamorphosis of the Great Bear is far from over. Watch Video In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At the TEDxJacksonHole event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combined to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The theme for TEDxJacksonHole 2018 was METAMORPHOSIS.

  • FCCP Night Time & Blue Hour PhotoWalk in Ybor City

Centro Ybor Square by Geoffrey Coffee

Every other Wednesdays we will be visiting a different part of the Greater Tampa Bay area to practice Blue Hour Tonight we'll be in Historic Ybor City to do street photography. There are many neon lights and lit buildings and store fronts that make great subjects and backgrounds. HDR Photography is a possibility as well as Painting with Light. The sun sets about 6:00 PM and we'll start at 7 PM at Centro Ybor. Please park on the street or in one of the public lots. About 9 PM we'll finish the PhotoWalk and head to the Tampa Bay Brewing Company or another restaurant/pub. It is beneficial if you bring a sturdy tripod and small flashlight. Any lens will do, however we recommend a wide angle and telephoto to get the best results. A cable release can help as well, but the self time can be used also. • Thursday Morning Photowalk at John Chesnut Park

    John Chesnut Park

Today we are going to explore Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor. There are one or two Great Blue Heron nests we may be able to photograph, birds should be on their nests. Shorebirds and waders are common under these conditions. I've often seen Bald Eagles, Barred Owls, Wood Storks and Red-shouldered hawks in the area as well. Deer may also bee seen, so keep your eyes open. You can read more about (http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/04_Chesnut.htm) Chesnut Park at the County site. • FCCP Weekly Photo Assignment 25: Curves

Online - Not an in person Meetup

FCCP events are designed to encourage members to take photos more frequently. Assignment topics are chosen to encourage members to photograph subjects they may not normally photograph. Members may have to use techniques that they don't normally use and in return, they'll gain new insights and skills in photography. With Assignments, it's OK to start taking photos as soon as the event is posted. However, if you find yourself unable to take a photo during any week, it's OK to upload one from your archive, but please indicate that it's "From My Archive," in the caption or the first comment. Once you have completed the assignment, upload the one best shot taken to the album created for the event. Please don't upload your one photo before 2:45 PM, Thursday 6/20/2019. Here are a few "Curves" photos ( https://tinyurl.com/y59jkeeo ) to get you thinking. • FCCP Friday Morning Photowalk at the Florida Botanical Gardens

    Florida Botanical Gardens

The Florida Botanical Gardens inspires and educates visitors by showcasing flora, fauna and natural resources in motivational surroundings that promote environmentally friendly techniques. This Largo destination offers more than 30 acres of cultivated gardens and 90 acres of natural landscapes. It is free to the public every day and is a popular destination for photographers, residents and visitors who discover tranquility in the heart of Largo. The butterfly garden has been completely redone and expanded. Many of the other gardens have been enhanced as well and the grounds are in the best condition I've seen in 8 to 10 years. Here is a list of some of the plants (http://www.flbg.org/whatblooming/march_april_may.htm) that should be in bloom. I recommend a tripod for best results. I'll be happy to help with settings, lens choice etc. There will be an optional lunch after the PhotoWalk, for those interested. • Monthly Cell Phone Photo Showcase

    Online

This "event" takes place the third Friday of every month, to encourage everyone to go out and practice their photography. The bottom line is the more you shoot, the better you get. The better you get, the more fun photography becomes. The more fun photography is, the more you shoot. The more you shoot, the better you get . . . you get the picture (no pun intended). This is a repeating cycle and a great way to improve your photography. A photo gallery will be automatically created about an hour after the start of the "showcase" for everyone to post their best photos made with their Cell Phone Camera (any make, brand, model etc.). This is not judged and there are no prizes or awards. Please post your comments to the photos in the gallery and be respectful of your fellow members. You do not need to submit or post a photo to leave comments or share your thoughts. The album to upload to will be automatically created one to three hours after the start of the event.
