Details
American Masters — Dorothea Lange: Grab a Hunk of Lightning premieres nationwide Friday, August 29, 9-11 pm. We'll be watching the 2 hour documentary about the life and times of Dorothea Lange at Tony's Pizza.
The back of the restaurant is ours and the show will be projected on the big screen. The back of the restaurant can easily accommodate 50 people, so let's fill it up.
Dorothea Lange is probably most noted for the Migrant Mother series of images that put a face on the suffering caused by the dust bowl.
In the film, Dorothea describes photographing the first packed car of migrants entering California (pictured above): “That was the first car I saw that came out of the Dust Bowl. And that was the day the darn thing was discovered — what was happening. Nobody knew it. And then there was a rush. Never has stopped – that influx.”
The film covers the life of Ms. Lange, from her birth in 1895 to her death in 1965 and includes rare, never before seen, interviews with her, just before her death. The film concentrates on her ground breaking photo documentary work during the Great Depression for the Farm Security Administration.
Please arrive early for the best seating. Tony's serves appetizers and small personal pizzas. Whole pies may also be purchased and shared etc. A full service bar is available and Coke products are served as well.
After the show a brief discussion period will be availble for questions and comments on the film.
