Join us on a Thursday evening to practice you "bird" and sunset photography. Thanks to Linda Perdue, VP Shoots Photography, for the above image. She is a member of FCCP and very active in rescue dog photography, Stock work, as well as other genre of photography. You can visit her page at https://www.vpshoots.com/ Join us Thursday evening, April 11 to practice your “Bird” photography at Cypress Point Park, just south of the Tampa International Airport. Depending on wind direction, the Airplanes will be taking off over the park, or making their landing approach at very low elevations. You have multiple opportunities for panning and capturing images of commercial aircraft while in flight. These can be composited for some fun and interesting images. The park is also home to many varieties of shore birds and the occasional dolphin has been sighted in the shallow water of Upper Tampa Bay. I personally enjoy photographing people at this location'. Most individuals are in a good mood, enjoying themselves and willing to oblige you. If they should ask for a copy of the image, be prepared to provide them a card or other contact information. For those interested in street photography, this is a low stress location to get comfortable approaching people. Absolutely ask the parents’ permission before photographing children. Just say, hello and keep smiling…it goes a long way. We end our walk at sunset, as this Park is open only during daylight hours. Suggested equipment is a tripod, your favorite birding lens and something wider for the sunset shots. For those not a regular birder, something in the range of 200mm on a full frame camera will get you very usable images. A[masked]mm on a crop sensor camera is even better. Cypress Point Park is located just south of the Airport and somewhat confusing to find, due to the number of roads feeding the airport. The directions from the Veterans, from the Courtney Campbell Causeway and from both directions on I-275 follow: From the Veterans southbound, travel South past the Clearwater exit, staying in the right hand lane. Take exit 1B to the Raymond James Stadium and Spruce Street. The Cypress Street exit will appear almost immediately to the right. Follow the exit to W Cypress Street, turn to the right, and go approximately 75 feet where you must turn left. Go south to the Park, entrance, located just past the Office buildings. To return home, take W Cypress street east to Obrien Street, turn left and to north to W Spruce Street. You will turn left taking you around the Airport, to the Clearwater, and the Veterans Expressway exits. From the Courtney Campbell Causeway, take the airport exit and stay in the right hand lane. Take exit 1B, staying to the right as you will see the exit for Cypress Street almost immediately. Take the exit south to W Cypress Street, turn right, and go approximately 75 feet where you must turn left. Go south to the Park, entrance, located just past the Office buildings. From downtown Tampa on I-275, get off at The Westshore Blvd., Exit 40A. At the end of the ramp, turn right (North), and go tone block to W Cypress Street where you will turn left. Stay on Cypress Street until it dead-ends and you must turn left. Go south to the Park, entrance, located just past the Office buildings. From 1-275 from St. Petersburg, take exit 39 to the Airport and Kennedy Blvd. You will take the fork to Kennedy Blvd. and follow Kennedy to Westshore Blvd., where you will turn left. Follow Westshore Blvd. north. After passing back under I-275 you will go one more block to W Cypress Street where you turn left. Stay on Cypress Street until it dead-ends and you must turn left. Go south to the Park, entrance, located just past the Office buildings.
