Join a book coach, sensitivity reader and two developmental editors discuss the services they provide writers hoping to polish and publish their manuscripts.

PANEL BIOS:
MIA MANANSALA is a writer and book coach from Chicago who loves books, baking, and bad-ass women. She uses humor (and murder) to explore aspects of the Filipino diaspora, queerness, and her millennial love for pop culture.

She is the winner of the 2018 Hugh Holton Award, the 2018 Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award, the 2017 William F. Deeck - Malice Domestic Grant for Unpublished Writers, and the 2016 Mystery Writers of America/Helen McCloy Scholarship. She's also a 2017 Pitch Wars alum and 2018-2020 mentor, and Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach. Her debut novel, ARSENIC AND ADOBO, comes out May 4, 2021 with Berkley/Penguin Random House and is the first in the Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery series. LOURDES VENARD is a freelance editor with more than 35 years of writing and editing experience. As a journalist, she worked at The Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Newsday in New York. After her career in journalism, she turned to editing manuscripts, specifically crime fiction, and she does both developmental editing and copy editing. She has worked with authors who went on to win or place as finalists in the Edgar awards, Killer Nashville Silver Falchion awards, IPPY (Independent Publisher Book awards), CWA Dagger award, RWA Daphne Du Maurier award, and several other writing competitions. For the past seven years, she has served as newsletter editor of First Draft, the newsletter for the Sisters in Crime Guppy chapter, which now numbers over 1,000 people. She is also an educator, teaching copy editing through the University of California, San Diego, and through the Editorial Freelancers Association.

TERRI BISCHOFF: Crooked Lane Senior Editor Terri Bischoff began her life in books as a bookseller and then as a bookstore owner. She spent 10 years at Midnight Ink as their acquiring editor and two years with Crooked Lane. Terri’s interests lie in mainstream suspense and thrillers, LGBTQIA, and diverse characters / storylines.
