2013 WINTER WEDNESDAY HIKING SERIES
By Rachael Augspurg
Winter is a great time to hike in Florida. Each Wednesday in January, February & March there will be an 7-8 mile day hike on the FNST. This is the 19th year this annual hiking series has taken place in Central Florida. The plan is to celebrate the Florida National Scenic Trail's 30 years, by hiking a portion of the FNST each winter Wednesday between Ocala National Forest and Tosohatchee WMA. We will start at the Wekiva River and HIKE ACROSS SEMINOLE COUNTY to celebrate the county's 100 years. Then we will proceed south on the FNST to SR 50. Then we will return to the Wekiva River and hike north on the FNST to the Ocala National Forest.
Mark your calendars and clear your schedule on Wednesdays so you can join the group and “HIKE ON WEDNESDAY!”
Hike 12: Orlando Wetlands Park - Loop (5 or 7 miles). Hike through Orlando Wetlands Park (OWP) and the FNST in CH Bronson SF and return to OWP on the River Trail. Enjoy end-of-season potluck picnic at OWP pavilion after hike. Meet in the OWP parking area on Wheeler Road in Christmas.
