What we're about
Upcoming events (3)
In the tradition of the old 3DR Berleley Flydays, we will head to the Berkeley Marina Cesar Chavez park area for an "old/new" venue of flying. Get spectacular ocean and city views, as well as beautiful trail and marina opportunities. The picture above shows the picnic area where we will meet. This is an off leash dog friendly area, so be aware and considerate of other park users.
Our apologetic friends at SKYDIO are again promising an appearance at this event for a demo of the new Skydio 2 advanced features!
Let's spread a little Holiday cheer and take to the air in a Drone Celebration!
Looking for some Saturday fun in the bay area? Come join us for a flying event. We are a friendly group of drone pilots at all skill levels that love taking to the sky and flying together. Maybe you can bring a snack to share? We usually fly in the grassy area toward the far right side of the field. Looking forward to meeting you and helping if we can. As a group we have lots of experience and can help you set up your drone or answer any questions.
Location/Parking: Below is the map of the Baylands Park, look for us with the Flying Drones For Fun Banner. You may park in the red area marked on the map or any open parking close to us. Note: Drone insurance is important for your personal liability. Please join AMA or use app Verifly Drone to self insure.
• What we'll do
Let's head out of town and PARTWAY across the bridge...
Tired of the same old venue? Then lets head out to Treasure Island and meet up to fly together! Hoping for clear weather, this island will afford us some real glamour shots of both bridges and the SF skyline. Pack light and be ready to be on the move. Expect cool weather and dress in layers. This will be a photo flight event, so leave your race drone at home, come out and fly responsibly. You should insure yourself for this event. Whether you use Verifly app or are an AMA member, please be safe, fly responsibly, and be insured.
. Where We'll Meet: We will start at the Intersection of M and N streets, this is a right turn at the far end of the island, out to the end, rt turn to the location. adjacent to Pier 1. There is a large concrete parking lot and that is our fly base for the day. (update: it is a bit more challenging to navigate the island with ongoing construction, so consult google maps prior to arrival- they are future proofing the island by raising it 30 inches!)
• What to bring
Drones, controllers, batteries, warm jacket, lunch?
• Important to know
Spoke with Werner at SF drones school. He says that the only restrictions are the job corp government buildings, the playing fields, and over people, and that the housing on the back side of the island will elicit phone calls as people feel they are being spied on. Can't go in or near buildings as there is asbestos. He recommends the areas of clipper cove way, avenue N, and avenue of the palms. This is a right turn once you enter the island area.
